IMPROVEMENT IN MANUFACTURE OF BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138320, dated March 20, 1877 application filed February 13, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FERDI AND ZUENKELER, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Boxes, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the two members of my box partially closed, apart of the bottom being broken I away. Fig. 2 is a top view of the completed box." Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same with a lid superadded.
A represents a rectangular strip of wood of suitable dimensions to compose the sides of the box.
The inner surface of this strip is, at appropriate distances, partially out through by four series of vertical scores, B, to facilitate the formation of the desired rounded corners, and
by a horizontal croze, O. to receive the rabbeted edge D of the bottom E.
A tongue, F, on one end of the strip A fits and occupies a corresponding groove, G, in
the other end of said strip.
The strip A thus prepared is subsequently brought to the form shown in Fig. 1 by being.
bent around a hot block corresponding in shape to the desired interior of the box. Glue being then applied to the several joints, the two'members are brought into juxtaposition, as in Fig. 2, and thus held until fully set.
The box or receptacle thus formed may have any suitable lid, H.
I claim as a new article of manufacture- The box or receptacle whose body is composed of a single strip of wood, A, so scored and bent, B, as to possess alternately curved and flat portions, in one of which latter the ends of the strip are united by tongue F and. groove G, and whose bottom E is crozed, D, into said body,-as set forth.
