Description
F. ZUENKELER. WOODEN-BOXES.
No. 195,871. Patented 0ct.2,1877
wIIII/I/I/II/II/M/A.
N. PEIERS, PHOTO-UTMDGRAPHER. WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND ZUENKELER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN WOODEN BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,871, dated October 2, 18 77 application filed September 13, 1877.
' The object of my invention is substantially the same as that for which Letters Patent No. 188,720 were granted to me March 20, 187 7 namely, a box that can be manufactured entirely by machinery, and without the use of nails.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my box with the lid partially open. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of same. Fig. 3 is an inside view of one of the corners of the box, and Figs. .4 and 5 show difl'erent forms of corner-pieces.
A represents the sides and ends of my box, having tongues B cut on their ends for the purpose of fitting into the grooves Gin the edges of the corner-pieces D. These corners have a horizontal croze, E, near the bottom, as have also the sides A. The bottom G of the box has a rabbeted edge, F, which occupies said croze E.
H represents the lid, which may be hinged in any suitable manner.
The corner-pieces D may be made of quartocylindrical shape, as shown in Fig. 3, or of square form, as in Fig. 4; or the corners may be broken, as in Fig. 5.
By this construction I am enabled to use timber of almost any length or width, as the short pieces can be made into ends, and two or more narrow pieces may go to make up a side.
I claim- As a new article of manufacture, the box having the side and end pieces A tongued at their ends, and correspondingly-grooved corner-pieces D, both having croze E, for the reception of the rabbeted bottom G.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
FERD. ZUENKELER.
