PATENT OFFICE.
KITCHEN UTENSIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 744,576, dated November 1'7, 1903.
Application filed August 3, 1903- Serial No. 168.063- (No model.) 7
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT E. LIGON, of Greenville, in the county of Greenville and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen Utensils; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is toprovide an improved kitchen utensil especially adap ted to making bread, cake, 850., which will be composed of but few parts not liable to become damaged or deranged.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the device with its cover closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the cover opened.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a shallow rectangular box or frame, preferably of wood, having its ends 2 and sides 3 suitably secured together and to the bottom, although a' bottom for the frame is not essen- The inner faces of the ends are formed with coincident curved grooves or channels 4, extending longitudinally thereof and terminating near the upper corners of the ends. These grooves are designed to accommodate the end edges of a tray '5, of metal or Wood, which when position ed constitutes a concaved kneading-surface designed to be used when manipulating the dough.
6 is a convertible member hinged to one of the sides 3 of the frame and'designed to serve as a cover for the latter and as a rollingboard in the making of bread, cake, 850. Its
side edge is adjacent the side of the tray 5,
so that when opened its relative position is such that the operator may readily move the dough over the tray and onto the board without spilling or having the hands interfered with in their movement. On the outer face of the cover is a rest or stop 7, designed to support the former when used as a rolling-board. It is shown in the form of a block hinged to the cover to permit of its lying flat on the latter when not in use. The block is of a length corresponding to the height of the frame 1, so that when in use it will support the rolling-board in a horizontal position.
From the foregoing the advantages of my invention are apparent.
The device may be cheaply manufactured, occupies but little space, may readily be cleaned, embodies a kneading-tray and rolling-board in advantageous relative positions, and a rolling-board in a truly horizontal position, which constitutes a cover when not in use. The roller-pin, biscuit-cutter, 850., may be kept within the tray free from dust and vermin.
I claim as my invention- In a kitchen utensil, a box or frame having curved grooves on the inner faces of its ends, a concaved kneading-tray designed to be accommodated by such grooves, and a cover for the box, such cover having a stop ROBERT B. LIGON.
