UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH H. BROWVNE, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
COLLAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 436,765, dated September 16, 1890.
Application filed April 15, 1889. Serial 110,307,282. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSIAH H. BRoWNE, of Salem, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Collar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to collars, the object of the invention being to provide an attachment for collars which will act to prevent the displacement of the neck-wear worn in connection with the collar; and to the end named the invention consists, essentially, of a collar provided with one or more loops that are adapted to receive the neck-wear band, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar embodying my IDXGHtlOD, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view on line a as of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, represents the collarbody, which, as usual, is made up of an outer layer a and an inner layer 1). Between the layers a and b, I stitch a loop 11, which normally rests, as represented in Fig. 1. The object of this loop is to prevent the displacement of the neck-Wear, the neck-wear band being passed through the loop, after which the loop is turned up against the collar-body.
Such is my preferred form of collar, and usually but one loop will be employed; but I desire it to be understood that other loops might be connected to the collar, and that any proper means might be employed for attaching the loop to the collar.
In using such a collar as the one above described it will be found that the band of the necktie will be held to place and will not work up above the top of the collar, and it will further be found that the loop will not interfere with the putting on or taking off of the collar, nor will it mar the general appearance of the collar.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a collar consisting of two or more plies or thicknesses of material, said collar being provided with a flexible loop secured between the said plies at the lower rear central portion of the collar and projecting from its lower edge for the reception of the neck-wear band, the said loop being adapted to be turned up against the collar, as set forth.
JOSIAH H. BROIVN E.
