MAX WALD, OF NEWr YORK, N. Y.
NECKSCARF.`
SPECIFICATION Iorming part of Letters Patent No 375,967, dated January 3, 1888.
' Application filed October 14, 1887. Serial No.5'2,35-i. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, lMAX WALD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neckscarfs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The objectof my invention is to provide a made-up scarf which is readily reversible without the necessity of ripping it apart and stitching it together again.
The invention comprises, in connection with a reversibleknot, a neckband, a band tooth, and a detachable liy, and a tab and a clasp for connecting the detachable fly tothe knot, as hereinafter fully described and distinctly claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure I is a rear view of a scarf embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a face View of the illes of the scarf when det-ached. Fig. 3 is a face view of 'the knot detached with a part of aneckband, and Fig.4 is a detail side view of the clasp for fastening the flies to the knot.
In the practice of my invention, a knot, A, finished on both faces, is formed, preferably, by covering a doubled piece, B, of fabric, having a usual inner stiffening body, with similar face pieces C G,'which may be stitched together along their side edges, D, the doubled end of the piece B projecting above the face piece so as to form a wide loop, E.
Aneckband, G, is fastened at its inner end within the loop E, so that it may be carried out through either side of the loop, and in applying the scarf to the neck its free end, which is stiiened, is inserted into the opposite side of the loop downward through the knot in the usual manner.
A tab, H, is fastened to the inner body of the knot A so as to project slightly below the same for connecting the detachable flies I thereto.
The detachable flies I are formed in this case of a doubled strip of fabric, and to the outside of one fiy I is attached a spring-clasp, J, by a short strap, K, so that the jaws of the clasp will project upward and can engage the tab H, the doubled end of the fly-strip being inserted in the knot from the bottom, in front of the tab H, to form the finished scarf.
The clasp J has a downwardlyprojecting tooth,`L, on which the neckband is caught in the usual way.
In reversing the scarf, the clasp J is disengaged from the tab H, and the knot removed from the flies, reversed, and replaced on the illes, the latter facing as before, but now on the opposite side of the tab H.
lhereversal of theknot is easily and quickly accomplished and doubles the life of the scarf, as the knot is the only exposed part liable to be quickly soiled.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a scarf, the combination, with a reversible knot, A, a neckband, G, a band-tooth, L, and a detachable fly, I, of a tab, H, and clasp J, for connecting the iiy to the knot, substantially as shown and described.
MAX VALD.
