B. PISKE.
LADYS COLLAR.
No. 332,507. Patented Dec. 15, 1885.
WITNEESEE- V INMENTUR- %w@@ @iZW/WKW i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ESTELLE FISKE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
LADYS COLLA R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,507, dated December 15, 1885.
Application filed December 10, 1884. Serial No. 150,021.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ESTELLE FIsKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco. in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ladies Collars for Neck-Wear, of which the following is a specification.
Heretofore in the use of ladies neck-wear such as collars, &c.it has been extremely difficult to attach. an ornament or breastpin, by reason, mainly, of the stiffness imparted to the collar in starching, as the holdingpin of the ornament would have to be forced through the stiffened linen after the collar had been fastened by the stud or button at both sides of the button-holes, and often the pin becomes bent in the attempt to pierce the collar, or
-will pass through the collar and enter the throat of the person.
The object, then, of my invention is to provide a means whereby a breastpin or ornament having an attaching-pin can be readily (No model.)
and stitch these around to prevent fraying, in the same manner as in forming eyelet-holes for the spiral wires of studs in the bosoms of shirts for gentlemen. These eyelet-holes are made at a suitable distance from the buttonholes of the stud, and so as not to interfere with them, and the inner end of the collar should not extend so far as to cover or obstruct the eyelet-hole of the outer or overlapping end.
In practice the collar is placed around the neck of the person and the meeting ends connected by the stud, when the pin of the ornament is passed through both of the eyelets and fastened in the usual way. By this construction the collar is kept in position around the neck of the wearer, as the pin of the ornament passes through the collar of the dress, and thus holds and prevents the linen collar from working up or down or sidewise.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A collar for ladies, provided at its meeting ends with the ordinary stud or button holes, A A, for attaching the collar to the neckband, and having diagonally above the same the eyelet-holes B B, for the insertion of a breastpin, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
