NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA T. REED, OF VICTORIA, TEXAS.
NURSERY-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 284,671, dated September 11, 1883. Application filed May 15, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMMA T. REED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Victoria,
in the county of Victoria and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in childrens chairs, and has for its object to secure a child in its seat and prevent its falling out or upsetting the chair. The objects are attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a chair supplied with myattachment. Fig. 2 isa plan of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a view of the under side thereof.
The letter A indicates a piece of board of suitable dimensions, having a recess cut out on A one side, and thus leaving an opening of sufficient size to admit of its partly surrounding the body of the child. opening, and near the edge thereof, is a row of holes, a, for the purpose of fastening the bib B by lacing to the board A, as thismethod of fastening permits the ready removal of thebib, when desired, for washing or other purposes.
On a line with this The bib has abelt, C, which buttons around the waist of the child, and has also a collar, D, which is fastened around the neck. The bib may be made of oilcloth or other suitable material. Loops a are attached to the under side of the board and pass through holes in the arms of the chair, and bolts or suitable hooks engage therein, and in this manner the board and the chair are fastened to each other.
The outer edge of the board may be supported by any suitable means, such as a small table or chair, or a single leg attached thereto.
A child four months old and upward may be left in a chair provided with this attachment 5 in perfect security, as there is nothing against which the child may push with its feet and turn-itself over.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and to claim The board A, recessed as described, and providedwith means for attaching it to an infants chair, in combination with the bib B, fixed to the board A, as and for the purpose set forth. p
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EMMA T. REED.
