UNITED I STATES PATENT IEEICE,
FRIEDRICH DIEDRIOH BEIIRENS, OF ENON, OHIO.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICAT1ON forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,77*?, dated October 1, 1889. Application led December 21, 1888. Serial No.v294,324. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH DIEDRIeH BEHRENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Enon, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and use ful Improvement in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in buckles suitable for bitching-straps, bridlereins, the.; and it consists in a certain novel construction and combination of parts, fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, and specitically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the buckle embodying my invention, with the hit-ching or halter strap applied thereto and connected to the ring onl the halter. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the buckle.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A designates the buckle embodying my improveinents, which consist, mainly, of approximately U-shaped side bars B B, connect-ed together at their corresponding ends by the end bars C C. The side bars are also connect-ed below the bar C by a broad bar C2, the upper edge of which is' arranged close to the said bar C', and thereby forms a traverse slot c in the end of the buckle. The horizontal portions of the side bars are connected at intervals by the front bar D, the rear bar D and the intermediate bar D2. The strap E passes through the slot c in the rear end of the buckle, passes around and under the front bar D, over the intermediate bar, under the rear bar, and the free end thereof is carried forward and formed into a loop F, which lies Within the loop G, which is formed by passing the strap around the front bar. The ring H, which is connected to the halter or other portion of the harness, is engaged in the loop G or in the combined loops G and F, and it Will be evident that any strain on the long end of the strap Will clamp the latter tightly around the bars D D D2 and prevent the same from slipping.
One of the side bars, between the front bar D and the intermediate bar D2, is provided with a eut K, and the bar D is provided with a similar cut- K, to enable the strap to be ap plied to the buckle without passing its entire length between the bars.
From the above description it will be seen that no stitching is used, no box-loops are formed, and no perforation of the strap is necessary to secure the latter to the buckle, and therefore the strength of the strap is unimpaired, and it is more readily and quickly applied.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. The herein-described buckle, comprising the U-shaped side bars B B, connected at their front and rear ends, respectively, by the bars O and O, the transverse bar O2, arranged below the bar O and thereby forming a transverse slot c, and the transverse bars D, D, and D2, connecting the horizontal portions of the side bars, the side bar between the bars D and D'e and the bar D being provided, respectively, with the cuts K and K', all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. As an improved article ot manufacture, the buckle A, having upturned ends and provided With a transverse slot C at one end and the parallel transverse bars D D D2, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the 'foregoing as my own I havehereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRICH DIEDRICH ISEHRENS. lVitnesses-z ANNIE MILLER, EDWARD BAKER.
