R. W. JONES.
STRAP LOOP PROTECTOR.
N0. 34l,917. Patented May 18, 1886 Miran darts atniwr FFIQEQ RICHARD IV. JONES, OF SYRACUSE, NEXV YORK.
STRAP-LOOP PROTECTOR.
EiPECIE'ICA'I'IOhI forming part of Letters Patent No. 34:1,917, dated May 18, 1886.
Application filed November 30, 1885.
.To all whom it 71mg concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syraeuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Strap-Loop Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement attached to both ends of a short strap or billet. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improvement, and Fig. 3 is a like view showing the hook formed rigid.
My invention relates to that class of devices which are used in the bight of a strap to prevent the wear of a ring and to receive the end of the billet, and is especially adapted for use as a hame-strap protector, and also as a tiestrap loop, although it may be used on other parts of harness.
The improvement consists in the peculiar construction of the loop and hook with relation to each other, as will hereinafter be fully de scribed, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A is a strap pro vided with an ordinary buckle at one end, doubled, as shown in Fig. 1, so as to form a loop or bight at each end, and inclosing one of my improved strap-loops in each of the bights, that at one end having a hinged or pivoted hook, and that at the other end being provided with a rigid hook carrying on its back portion a short stud.
My invention consists of an angular or V- shaped frame consisting of two pyramidal side pieces, A, connected by two transverse bars, B. From the apices of the angular sidepieces, A, projects a hook, C, which in Fig. 2 is hinged or pivoted to a third cross-bar, B, while in Fig. 3 the hook is rigid and projects from the apices of the angular side pieces, and
Serial No. 184285. (No model.)
is provided on its back shank portion with a short stud, a, which is to engage with a hole or holes in the strap, as shown at the right of Fig. 1. In either instance the strap is passed under one of the cross-barsaround ihe hook and after a ring is inserted back underneath the other transverse bar. The hook has the usual functions of devices of the class to which it belongs-viz., to prevent the wear of the strap by the ring or hame-loop which is used in the bight; but forming the loop-bars as I have shown and described greatly facilitates the insertion and withdrawal of the strap. This construction is also very simple, easily and cheaply constructec'l, and very durable and efficient in use.
As before stated, my improvement is spe cially adapted to hamc'straps and tie or hitching straps, but is useful in various parts of harness, and I do not, therefore, restrict myself in its use.
I am aware of Patent No. 333,930, January 5, 1886, for improvements in buckles, and do not claim a buckle as any part of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A strap-loop having the angular end bars, straight cross-bars, and hook provided with a stud on the back of its shank portion, substantially as described.
2. A strap loop having the angular end bars, straight cross-bars, and a hook pivoted to the transverse bar at the apices of the angular end bars, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD W. JONES.
