DOUBLE BUCKLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,533, dated AJune 3, 1884.

To all whom, twenty concern,.-

Be it known that we, CHARLES H. FREEE and MAYNAED M. FEEER, citizens of the United States, residing at Blue Earth, in the county of Faribault and State of ,Minnesota have invented a new and useful Double Buckle, fof which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

Our invention relates to buckles; and it has for its objectto provide a device of this character which shall be cheap and simple in its construction, one that will obviate the necessity of sewing or riveting, and one that will be thoroughly effective in its use.

With these ends in view the invention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a buckle constructed in accordancel with our invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the same with the strap applied, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.

In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to corresponding parts in the several gures, A represents our improved buckle,which is constructed asfollows: B represents the sides, which are provided upon their upper sides with cross-bars a, and at about their center with a tongue-bar, O, upon which is pivoted a tongue, D. The sides of the buckle from the point at which they are provided with the cross-bars a extend upwardly, and are connected at their ends by means of cross-bars b, one of which is provided with a bushing or roller mounted thereon to facilitate the passage of the strap. Upon the sides of the buckle adjacent to one of the cross-bars a is provided a cross-bar, d, which, in connection with the end cross-bar,b, forms a tuck-loop for the passage and proper retention of the strap in position. Upon the under side of one of the cross-bars a is provided an upwardly-projecting spur or stud,e, which is adapted to engage a perforation in the end of the strap when the same is applied.

The strap is applied in the following manner: One end of the strap m is engaged with the spur or stud which projects from the cross-bar a. The other end, z, of the strap is then passed under the tongue-bar, and then up over the same, and the tongue made to engage with a slot or opening therein. rlhe end a is then passed between the cross-bar a and the bar carrying the stud c, and as the stud does not project above the thickness of the strap the proper passage or working of the strap is not interfered with.l The end z of the strap is then carried forward and bent to forma loop, from whence it is carried and passed under the other cross-bar a. It is then bent to form aloop and carried rearwardly, and passed below or'under the bar b, having the bushing or roller and the pivoted tongue D engaged therewith. The end .e of the strap is then passed between the tuck-loop formed by the end cross-bar, b, and the bar d.

It will be seen from the above description that our improved buckle is simple in its construction; that it may be applied with but little trouble. It will also be seen that it obviates the necessity of any sewing or riveting of the strap.

Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. In a buckle, the combination, with the sides having the cross-bars a and end crossbars, b, of the tongue-bar c and cross-bar d, substantially as set forth.

2. The herein-described buckle A, consisting of the sides B," having the cross-bars a, and having their ends bent upwardly and connected by cross-bars b, one of which is provided with a bushing or roller, a tongue-bar, c, carrying a pivoted tongue, and the cross-bar a, having an upwardly-projecting stud,and abar, d, forming,in connection with the bar b, a tuckloop, substantially as set forth.
