(Cl. 128-99) This invention relates to rupture supporting devices, and in particular, a strap for retaining the pad or pads over ruptures in the lower parts of the abdomen, such as a hernia, and in which the pad is supported by a strap hooked over the belt of a garment at the center of the back, extended through the crotch and secured to the pad which is supported by laterally disposed straps at the front.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a rupture support that is adapted to be positioned between an under garment and a pair of trousers whereby irritation caused by a pad or supporting straps rubbing the skin is substantially eliminated.
Various types of supporting belts and straps have been provided for supporting rupture retaining pads, however, it has been found difficult to retain such a pad in position without discomfort. With this thought in mind, this invention contemplates providing a rupture support that is retained in position with a strap supported by a hook position over the belt or upper edge of a pair of trousers whereby the hook is adapted to be positioned at the center of the back with the pad located at the front.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming a rupture support whereby a pad of the support and also retaining straps thereof are adapted to be positioned on the outside of an under garment.
Another object of the invention is to provide a rupture support that is adapted to be retained in position by a single clip hooked over the upper edge of a garment and positioned at the center of the back of the patient.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rupture support having a retaining pad adapted to be suspended from a clip at the center of the back of an individual in which the support is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view, the invention embodies a strap assembly having a hook extended from the upper end with a clamp extended around the straps and clips and with an extended end of the strap provided with a buckle for adjusting the length thereof wherein with lower parts of a pair of such straps connected to a rupture retaining pad the position of the pad is readily adjustable.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational View illustrating the position of the rupture support with the support positioned upon an individual and with parts of the trousers broken away to show the positions of the parts.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view also with parts of the trousers broken away showing the strap and supporting clip at the center of the back of the individual.
Figure 3 is a cross section through the support taken substantially on a medial line thereof with the parts shown on an enlarged scale and illustrating, in particular, the strap and clip assembly.
Figure 4 is a side elevational view also illustrating the 2,815,023 Patented Dec. 3, 1957 strap and clip assembly, the lower parts of the straps being broken away.
The rupture support of this invention includes, essentially, a strap formed from a band of plastic or light weight leather belting and bent upon itself at its medial line to provide an outer section 10 and an inner section 11, the lower ends of the sections 10 and 11 being connected with a loop 12 and, as illustrated in Figure 3, the upper end of the section 10 is connected to a clip 13 and the upper end of the section 11 extended through a clamp or loop 14. An inner loop 15 having side sections 16 and 17 supports a buckle 18 in which the end of the section 11 is held.
The clip 13 is provided with a shank 19 that extends downwardly to a point 20 and the upper end 25 of the section 10 of the strap is secured to the shank 19 with a fastener 21 by which the upper end 22 of the section 17 of the loop 15 is also attached to the shank. The shank 19 is also connected by a fastener 23 to the strap and the loop 15 with the inner section 17 of the loop 15 on one side and the upper ends of the section 16 of the loop 15 and the outer section 10 of the strap on the opposite side.
The clamp 14 extends around the upper end 24 of the inner section 11 of the strap, the upper end. 22 of the inner section 17 of the loop 15 and the shank 19, also as shown in Figure 4.
The prong 26 of the buckle 18 extends through spaced openings 27 in the inner section 11 of the strap whereby the length of the strap is readily adjustable.
The strap may be used for supporting a. rupture at one side or the strap may be duplicated when used with a double pad such as the pad 28, shown in Figure 1.
The upper portion of the pad 28 is provided with loops 29 and 30 through which a strap 31 extends and, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the strap 31 is secured to the inner portion of the clamp 14.
With the parts assembled as disclosed and described, the clip 13 is placed over the belt or upper edge of a garment, such as the garment 32 as shown in. Figure 2, with the strap dropped downwardly inside of the garment. The strap 35 is then extended through the loop 12 of the strap and the crotch and positioned with the ends thereof secured to the pad 28, such as by stitching, as indicated at the points 33 and 34. With the strap or belt 31 extended through the loops 29 and 30 and secured to the clamp 14, the upper part of the pad 28 is retained in position and the pad is adapted to extend upwardly, as illustrated in Figure 1.
With the elements supported on the outside of an under garment, such as a pair of shorts, and inside of an outer garment such as a pair of trousers, all irritations due to rubbing of parts of the pads or supporting belts are obviated.
It will be understood that modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A rupture support comprising a first strap having a loop at its central portion, a second strap having a loop at its central portion engaged with the loop on the first strap, a clip on one end of the first strap, and a pad on the opposite end of the second strap, said clip being adapted to be positioned over the upper edge of a garment with the second strap extended between leg portions of the garment whereby the pad is adapted to be positioned at the front of the garment with the clip at the center of the back thereof.
2. A rupture support comprising a first strap having a loop at its central portion, a second strap having a loop at its central portion engaged with the loop on the first strap, a clip on one end of the first strap, and a pad on the opposite end of the second strap, said clip being adapted to be positioned over the upper edge of agarment with the second strap extended between leg portions of the garment whereby the pad is adapted to be positioned at the front of the garment with the clip at the center of the back thereof, said first strap having a buckle therein for adjusting the length thereof.
3. A rupture support comprising a first strap having a loop at its central portion, a second strap having a loop at its central. portion engaged with the loop on the first strap, a clip on one end of the first strap, and a pad on the opposite end of the second strap, said clip being adapted to be positioned over the upper edge of a garment with the second strap extended between leg portions of the garment whereby the pad is adapted to be positioned at the front of the garment with the clip at the center of the back thereof, said first strap having a buckle therein for adjusting the length thereof and said first strap being adapted to be provided in duplicate.

In a rupture support, the combination which comprises a first and second strap having loops in lower portions thereof, a clip having a shank, means for securing one of the ends of the first strap to the shank of the clip, a buckle suspended from the shank of the clip and through which the opposite end of the first strap extends, 25
a pad secured to the ends of the second strap, loops on the pad, and a third strap extended through the loops of the pad and positioned with ends thereof clamped to the shank of the clip.
5. In a rupture support, the combination which comprises a pair of first straps having loops in lower portions thereof, a clip having a shank, means for securing one of the ends of the first strap to the shank of the clip, a buckle suspended from the shank of the clip and through which the opposite end of the first strap extends, a pad secured to the ends of the second strap, loops on the pad, and a third strap extended through the loops of the pad and positioned with ends thereof clamped to the shank of the clip, said support being adapted to be positioned between trousers and an undergarment with the clip at the center of the back and extended over the upper part of the trousers, with the second strap extended between leg portions of the undergarment, and with the pad at the front and supported in an upright position with the third strap extended through the loops thereof.
