This invention relates to apparel and more particularly to an improved lingerie holder, one object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which will serve very effectively to retain a lingerie 'strap in its proper position and prevent it from sliding downwardly ofi of a shoulder but atthe same time, may be so applied to the shoulder portion of a dress that it will be hidden from view, and not detract from the appearance of a dress.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the vdevice that it may be applied to a dress having either wide shoulder portions Aor narrow straps extending across a persons shoulders.
Another object of the invention is to permit the device to be very easily applied and also permit it to be adjusted in order that it may accommodate itself to the width of a shoulder strap or shoulder portion of a dress.
Another object of the invention is to provide the device with attaching elements `in ,they form of safety pins so constructed that when they are applied they will extend parallel to a shoulder strap or shoulder portion of a dress andnot show through the dress or cause fabric to be torn or distorted due to strain.
Another ,object of the invention is to so construct the device that it may be easily and quickly applied or removed and further so construct it that when it is in use it will not be liable to slip loose or move out of its proper position in engagement with the dress or lingerie strap.
A still furtherobject of the invention resides in the provision of -a lingerie shoulder strap holder the parts of which are so constructed as to permit the same to be readily and easily assembled and disassembled, the device being further simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further well adapted to the purposefor which it is designed. Y
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description when taken in connec- `5.0 tion with the accompanying drawing.
1932. Serial No. 624,864.-
Tn the accompanying drawing forming Aa part of this application: n
Figure V1 is a view showing the lingerie strap holder applied to the shoulder `portion of a dress with its chain released from one ofthe pins.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figurel, showing the chain engaged with the second pin or clasp.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken `along the line 3 3 of Figure 2. Y Figure 4 is a view showing thelingerie strap holder applied to anarrow shoulder strap of a dress. p
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken longitu-v 65 dinally through Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a perspective view illustrating the manner in which the device supports a lingerie strap. when in use.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary sectional view taken along the line 7 -7 of Figure 6.
vIn describing the drawing, I shall refer to the various yparts by reference characters which designate corresponding parts throughout the several views. This invention relates to a device used by women to support the shoulder straps l of underwear 2 and one of the devices will be applied to each shoulder portion of a dress 3 which may have wide shoulders and sleeves as -89 shown in Figure `6 or narrow shoulder straps asshown in Figures 4: and 5, the shoulder strap in this ligure being designated by the numeral 4. vFront and rear portions of the dress are sewed together 5.5' along the shoulderto form a shoulder seam 5 and referring to Figure 7, is will `be seen that this seamy is disposed inwardly and folded to lie lat. A lingeriestrap will un,- less secured, have a tendency to slide along La@ a persons shoulder and drop down to a position in which it binds the `arm and is very uncomfortable but by use of .this improved device, the lingerie straps will be held in place and prevented from slipping out of their proper positions ,asshown clearly in Figure 6. n
This lingerie strap holder consists of VAa pair of attaching Adevices or clasps and which resemble safety pins a `Chain 8 A carried by the clasp 6 and releasably engaged with the clasp 7. Each clasp is formed of a strand of resilient metal which may be circular or any other shape in cross section and has one end sharpened to form a penetrating point and its other end flattened and dished transversely to form a shieldl or seat 9 for the sharpened end. After one end of the strand has been sharpened and the other shaped to form the shield, the strand is bent in spaced relation to its ends to form a clasp which is substantially oblong in shape but has rounded ends and one clasp carries an eye 10 while the other clasp has fixed to its end a hook or bill 11 which faces upwardly when this clasp is applied toa dress. The opposite end portion of each clasp is curved longitudinally as shown clearly in Figures 3 and 5 and therefore, when the clasps are applied to a dress they extend substantially parallel to the same and 'do not cause the fabric to bulge or become torn or distorted due to strain. SinceV the clasp has a sharpened end it can be passed through the seam 5 or engaged through bindings 12 of the shoulder strap 4 andl as it does not pass through the shoulder strap itself or shoulder portion of the dress, it will be completely hidden from view and not detract from the appearance of a dress.
i When this improved lingerie strap holder is in use the clasps are engaged with the seams 5 or bindings 12 of a shoulder strap and will extend either longitudinally of a shoulder seam as shown in Figures l and 2 or diagonally of a shoulder strap as shown in Figure 4. If the shoulder straps are wide enough, the clasps may extend transversely thereof similar to the manner in which they are applied to the shoulder seam. .The chain 8 which is engaged at one end with the eye 10 of the clasp 6 is extended beneath the shoulder strap 1 of the undergarment and the large ring or link 13 at its end engaged with the hook l1. If the clasps are too close to each other to have the ring 13 engaged with the hook andv the chain held tight enough to properly support the strap 1, the large ring or link 14 intermediate the length of the chain may be engaged with the hook as shown in Figuresl and 5 0r any one of the links of the chain engaged with the hook. The holder will it close to the dress or shoulder strap and since -it extends beneath the strap of the under garment, this strapV l will be prevented from slipping out of its proper position and dropping down about a persons arm.
Wien the holder is to be removed, the chain-isreleased from the hook and drawn outwardly from beneath the shoulder strap of the under garmentand the dress can then be removed and after removal, the pins or clasps detached. Since they are merely engaged through the shoulder seam or bindings perforations will not be formed in thedress goods itself and detract from its appearance or weaken it and cause it to tear easily. Since the clasps are connected by a chain and they may be engaged with selected links of the chain, they may be spaced from each other any distance desired and also be disposed at any angle desired and therefore, the holders may accommodate themselves to the type of dress to which they are to be applied.
ftwill thus be seen from the foregoing description that I have provided a device of the above mentioned character that will at all times be positive and eliicient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed, and furthermore dueto its simplicity, ythe parts can be readily and easily interchanged and also assembledv and disassembled.
llhile l have shown the preferred. em-A bodiment of my invention,it is to be understood that minor changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: Y Y
1. A. lingerie Astrap holder comprising clasps each having one end detachably lengageable with a shoulder portion of a dress and when in place extending in longitudinally spaced relation to each other, each clasp being bent adjacent its attached end whereby the clasp may extend substantially parallel to the shoulder portion of a dress with its attached end extending upwardly into position for engagement with the dress, l a chain attached at one end to one clasp, and means carried by the other clasp to engage a selected link of said chain.
2. A lingerie strap holder comprising clasps each having one end detachably enl gageable with a shoulder portion of a dress i and bent adjacent their attached ends to dispose the clasps parallel to the shoulder portion ofthe dress in selected spaced relation to each other, and a chain permanently y attached to the other end of one clasp, the i other clasp having a portion engageable through a select-ed link of the chain.
f 3. A lingerie strap holder comprising clasps each having one end detachably engageable with a shoulder portion of a dress and bent adjacent their attached ends to dispose the clasps parallel tothe shoulder portion of a dress in selected spaced relation to each other, an eye at the free end of one clasp, a chain having a link at one end engaged through said eye, and a hook carried by the free end of the other clasp and engage-able through a selected link of the chain.
4. A lingerie strap holder comprising clasps each formed as a safety pin and having a penetrating point adjacent one end and a shield for the same, the other end prtion of the clasp being bent to extend upwardly for engagement through the shoulder portion of a dress with the clasp extending parallel to the shoulder portion of the dress7 a chain attached at one end to the shield carrying end of one clasp, and a 10 hook at the shield carrying end of the other clasp and engageable through a selected link of the chain.
5. A lingerie strap holder comprising clasps each Jformed. as a safety pin and having a penetrating point and a shield for the same, one end portion of each clasp being bent longitudinally whereby the clasp may be engaged through a shouldery portion of a dress and `extend parallel to the same, a chain having one end engaged'with the other end of one clasp, and a hook carried by the corresponding end of the other clasp and extending upwardly when the clasp is in place and engageable through a selected link of the chain.
In testimony whereof, I aliX my signature.
