HUNTERS SAFETY GARMENT Filed Aug. 12, 1952 IN "ENTOR.
ATTD RN EYE Patented Aug. 17, 1954 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE This invention relates to garments of the type used by hunters, sportsmen and the like in which sections of bright colors, such as red, crimson, or the like are displayed on surfaces of the garments so that the person wearing the garment may readily be observed by a hunter, and in particular a slip over garment having spaced vertically disposed strips of bright red material extended over the shoulders and down at the front and rear and also strips positioned on the front and back of the trouser legs.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a safety garment that may be carried in a comparatively small space and that may be placed on over conventional garments when desired.
The usual garments for hunters and the like, which are made in bright colors, are comparatively heavy and at the same time costly. For this reason it is objectionable to wear garments of this type on a comparatively warm day and, furthermore, it is a burden to carry heavy garments of this type. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates strips of bright red material adapted to be positioned over the shoulders and extended downwardly on the front and back and also strips positioned on the front and backs of the legs, and the strips extended over the shoulders may be provided independently or may be secured to a shirt, jacket, or upper garment that may be worn over the clothing. The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for positioning safety strips of bright colors on a hunter or sportsman whereby the strips may be carried in a comparatively small package and used only as desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a safety garment having strips of bright colors for use on the front and back of the body and legs in which the device is adapted for use by both men and women.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment having safety strips of bright colors that is adapted to be worn over conventional clothing and that is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a slip over shirt or jacket open down the front and provided with fasteners, strips of bright colors extended from a belt at the waist over the shoulders from the front to the back and similar strips of bright colors suspended by elastic bands from the belt at the waist and positioned to be held by elastic bands to the front and back sections of the legs.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a front elevational view illustrating the improved safety garment and showing the garment in position on a hunter.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view also showing the garment in position on a hunter.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved safety device of this invention includes strips l0 and II extended from a belt l2 upwardly over the shoulders and downwardly to the belt at the back, strips I3 and M positioned over the front portion of the legs, and similar strips 15 positioned at the back of the legs.
The belt 12 is provided with a buckle it and the upper parts of the strips l0 and H are connected, at the front, with straps IT and IS, the ends of which are connected with a buckle 19. The strips [0 and II extend over the shoulders and down the back, the lower ends being connected, at the back, to the belt l2 at points 2! The strips If] and II may be provided independently or they may be mounted on a shirt or jacket, as indicated by the numeral 2'! with the edges of the strips secured to the material of the garment.
The belt I2 is provided with downwardly extended elastic straps 22 which are attached to the upper ends of the strips or panels 53 and M, as indicated at the points 23 and the panels l3 and M are connected to corresponding panels 15 at the rear with connecting elastic straps. The upper end of the panel is is connected by straps 24 and 25 to one of the panels 15 and the lower end is connected with straps 26 and 21 to the lower end of the panel Hi. The upper end of the panel M is connected with straps 28 and 2a to the upper end of the strip i5 and the lower end of the strip I4 is connected with straps 39 and ti to the lower end of the strip l5 of the leg upon the front of which the strip I4 is positioned.
With the parts formed in this manner the device may readily be slipped over a conventional garment when it is desired to display the bright colored strips for safety and when not in use the strips may be folded to a comparatively small package.
It will be understood that modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A safety device comprising bright colored strips adapted to extend over the shoulders and downwardly to the waist at the front and back of a hunter, a belt having a buckle positioned with the belt adapted to extend around the waist of the hunter, the lower ends of said strips being connected to the belt, strips of similar material for use on the front and back of the legs of the hunter and resilient straps connecting the strips at the front of the legs to the strips at the back of the legs and also connecting the strips for use on the front and back of the legs to the belt.
2. A safety garment comprising an upper garment having sleeves, strips of bright colored material positioned on the garment and extended over the shoulders and downwardly atthe front and back, a belt extended around the lower end of the garment and to which the lower ends of the strips of bright colored material are attached and strips of similar material depending by elastic straps from said belt and adapted to be-posi tioned on the fronts and backs of the legs of a person wearing the garment.
3. A slip over garment having comparatively wide strips of material of abright color on the front and back thereof, said strips being positioned on the garment so that the strips are extended over the shoulders and downwardly at the front and back of the garment, a belt for the garment, elongated substantially rectangular shaped strips positioned below the garment at the front and rear thereof, elastic straps connecting the rectangular shaped strips to the belt of the garment, and elastic straps connecting the respective front and back rectangular shaped strips at'their upper and lower ends so that said last mentioned strips are in alinement with the wide strips at the front and back of the garment.
