HARNESS-ROSETTE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,050, dated July 11, 1882. Application filed May 27, 1882. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, E. EUGENE SARGEANT, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improved Harness-Rosette; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification Figure 1 being a back view of the wire which forms the loop, and by which the loop is secured to the body or shell of the rosette; Fig. 2, a side view of the same; Fig. 3, a back view of the loop-wire and body or shell of the rosette, the former placed in the latter, ready for swaging the edgeof theshell around it; Fig. 4, a cross-section of the same in a plane indicated by the line a: w, Fig.3; Fig. 5, a back view of the ro'sette finished; Fig. 6, a cross-section of the same in a plane indicated by the line 3 3 Fig. 5; Fig. 7, a cross-section of the rosette in a plane at right angles to the view in Fig. 6, showing also a modification of the construction of the rosette.

Like letters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.

The purpose of my invention is to make a rosette both strong and cheap. I etfect this by the peculiar form in which the loop-wire is made and manner in which it is secured to the body or shell of the rosette, whereby no soldering, little labor, and few parts are required.

In the drawings, A represents the body or shell of the rosette, and B the loop-wire, including the loop 11 proper. I form the loopwire, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, of one piece, in two pieces,) the outer end thereof having the shape of a ring. (when Q the rosette is circular,) of the proper diameter to just fit within the turned-up edge or rim a of the body or shell A, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. It the outline of the rosette body or shell has a form other than the circular form, the outline form of the wire is to conform thereto. The two parts having been formed as described and put together as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the edge a of the body or shell is swaged around the wire, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. N 0 further manipulation is required, (except to ornament the rosette,) the loop-Wire being held very strongly in the body or shell without the need of soldering.

The construction described, and shown in the figures above referred, to is the simplest of the kind.

Any kind of filling may be used in the body or shell A-as, for instance, a disk, 0, (shown in Fig.7)to assistinforming and strengthening the rosette.

Any unessential variation from the construction shown and described may be adopted without departing from my invention.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A harness-rosette consisting of the body or base A, inclosing a wire, B, in its outer edge,

which wire is bent to form the loop I), all sub-- stantially as and for the purpose herein speci fied.
