Description
4Uieirren STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERNHARD GUTTMAN, OF PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY.
OVERALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,906, dated October 4, 1881.
Application tiled July 28, 1881.
To all lwhom tt may concer-n Be it known that I, BERNHARD GUTTMAN, ot Plainield, inthe county ot' Union and State ot' New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Combined Open-Front and Apron Overalls, of which the following is a specication.
The object ot' my invention is to facilitate converting ordinary open -front overalls into apron -overalls, which cover and protect the breast of the wearer.
The invention consists in an apron provided with Suspenders and adapted to be attached to the waistband of the overalls in such a manner that it will cover and protect the breast of the wearer, the suspenders holding the apron in this position. L
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of a pair of overalls provided with my improved apron. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is an inside view of my iinproved apron for overalls. Fig. 4 is a crosssectional viewot' the saine on the line x x, Fig. 3.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
The apron B is made about in the shape of a trapezoid, and at its lower or long edge it has a hollow seam, b, on the inner side, this seam being'provided with a series of button-holes, a, for corresponding buttons on the front and sides ot' the waistband D ot' overalls A. If the apron B is buttoned to the overalls A in this manner, it will appear as if the overalls and apron were made in one piece, as no buttons will be visible.
Two suspenders, C, or shoulder-supporting bands, are buttoned to the top of the apron B, or may be fastened thereto in some other suitable manner, and are also buttoned to the rear ot' the waistband D, and vthus serve to hold the apron B in the proper position, and also serve to support the overalls. This apron can be attached to overalls as they are ordinarily (No model.)
made, which are thus converted into apronoveralls. Ordinarily the so-called apronoveralls7 have one leg and half of the apron made in one piece, and have a bnttoned vertical slit through the apron.
My apron is entirely closed in fron t, and covers and protects the breast perfectly. lt cannot become accidentally opened by pressing, rubbing, or holding heavy objects against the breast, as is the case with the apron-over alls having a front buttoned slit. By making the apron -separated from the overalls a considerable quantity of the goods is saved, and one pair ot' overalls will answer for all purposes, as the apron can be attached very coilveniently and rapidly when required, and can also be detached as rapidly.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Overalls made, substantially as herein shown and described, with a detachable breast covering apron attached to the waistband, as set forth 2. The combination, with a pair of overalls, of a. detachable breast-coverin g apron attached to the waistband substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, a breast-covering apron for overalls, provided with devices for attaching it 'to the waistband of the overalls, and with Suspenders for supporting it from the shoulders, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth. v
4. The combination, with the overalls A, of
the detachable apron B and suspenders C,
substantially as herein shown anddescribed, and for the purpose set forth.
BERNHARD GUTTMAN. Witnesses:
OSCAR F. GUNz, O. SEDewIcK.
