I IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,856, dated November 6, 1877; application filed August 15, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEON ARONSON, of the city and county of San Francisco, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Overalls, which invention is fully described in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which drawing Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a pair of overalls containing my improvement. Fig. 2 is a like view, looking in an opposite direction to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 4 is a vertical section thereof, looking toward the front of the article. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section of the same.

My improvement relates to the construction of overalls or pants; and has for its object to strengthen those parts thereof which are subjected to heavy strain, and to accomplish this purpose without materially increasing the cost of the article, if at all.

It consists in a waistband having facings or stays for a rear pocket and for the front pockets of the overalls, and having a buckle strap or straps, all cut out in one piece with such band, the facings or stays being stitched to the outer edges of said pockets, so that the latter are rendered capable of resisting a great amount of strain, while said facings or stays, aswell as the buckle strap or straps, by being made in one piece with said waistband, are not only rendered exceedingly strong and durable, but can be produced with comparatively very little labor.

In the drawing, the letter A designates a pair of overalls, having pockets B B on the opposite and front parts thereof, and having a rear pocket, 0. These pockets are, respectively, provided with facings or stays I) D D which are stitched around the outer or free edges thereof, and cut out to the proper shape in one piece with the waistband E.

In the example shown, the waistband E is made in two parts, and united on the rear part of the overalls, as at a, the fi'ont pocket B and the rear pocket 0 being formed with one half or part of said waistband, while the the strap F extends directly from the waistband.

It will be seen that by the above construc- 'tion great strength is given to the pockets of the overalls at the points where the same are subjected to heavy strain, while little or no time is lost in applying either the pocket-facings or the buckle-straps, the greatest possible strength and durability being, moreover, given to said facings and straps, and comparatively little labor being involved in their production.

My overalls have the usual opening in their front part, the edges G G of which lap over each other, and the inner lap G is provided with an extension, H. This extension H is stitched over the seams at the crotch, on the inside of the overalls, and by its means such seams are, to a great extent, re-enforced.

I am aware of the patent to S. R. Krouse, dated May 4, 1875, No. 162,830; but as I do not employ the construction and arrangement therein shown, the same is hereby disclaimed.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

As a new article of manufacture, the overalls or pants herein described, having the waistband, buckle-straps, and front and rear pocket-facings cut in one piece.
