UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE \VITTMAN; OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO DAVID NEUSTADTER, OF PLACE.
DRAfWERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 281,816, dated July 24, 1883.
Application filed February 10,1883. (No modeLl To all whom it may concern: W
Be it known that I, GEORGE WITTMAN, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Drawers and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to certain improvements in drawers for underwear; and it consists in a means for re-enforcing or strengthening the crotch-seam and front opening, which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front View, showing the construction of a pair of drawers with my invention. Fig. 2 shows the construction A is the body, and B the legs, of a pair of drawers having an opening in front, which is united at the bottom to form the vertical crotchseam. I have strengthened the crotch by the facing'strips or pieces C C, each of which is cut so as to-extend around the bottom of the front opening and a short distance up the opposite side, as shown. The strip Cis made to opposite side, being lapped and stitched over the strip C from the point a to a. The lower ends of both strips are extended down to the transverse crotch-seam D, and are stitched down their outer edges, and also down the center on each side of the vertical seam. At the bottom they are folded and stitched in with the edges of the transverse seam D, so as to strengthen it against strain at that point. By thus overlapping the two-part facingstrips C C, I produce a strong re-enforce at the bottom of the front opening and also across the vertical and transverse crotch-seams.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In drawers and similarunderwear, the independent facing pieces or strips C C, stitched one upon each side of the front opening, so as to overlap each other from the point a to a, both extending thence to the transverse seam D, and stitched across it and the vertical seam, substantially as herein described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand.
GEORGE WIITMAN.
Witnesses:
H. W. INCELL, N. VVENZELBAYR.
