Description

L. H. BAKER.
POCKET.
APPucATmN HLED JULY 6. 1915.
ateuted Nov. 23, 1915.
UNTTED STATES PATENT oFFicE.
LOUIS H. BAKER, 0F EVANSVILLE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 WM. M.
SMITH, OF VANDERBURG COUNTY, INDIANA. v
rocKET.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, Louis H. BAKER, a citizen of the United States. residing at Evansville, county of Vanderburg, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pockets.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an improved pocket for the jacket, trousers, or apron o f overalls, wherein a plurality of compartments or sub-pockets, ar-
ranged in a new relationship, will bc provided, adapting the pocket for holding the usual tools, implements or devices which a machinist, engineer, carpenter or other artisan customarily considers should be convenie-ntly carried on the person when overalls are worn.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a. self-contained pocket, provided with the plurality of sub-pockets or compartments, as previously set forth, and which may be constructed as a separate article of manufacture and applied to the jacket, trousers or apron of overalls or to any garment either by sewing or by the use of ybuttons or fasteners.
One embodiment of the invention is set forth fully hereinafter and disclosed in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a front view of the pocket, dotted lines showing the lines of seams or stitching for securing the pocket to the garment and for providing the sub-pockets orV compartments; Fig. 2, a View like Fig. 1, showing different implements vand devices in the sub-pockets; Fig. 3, a section on line 3 3, Fig. 1; Fig. 4, a section on line 4 4, Fig. 1; Fig. 5, a section on line 5 5, Fig. 1; and Fig. 6, a view like Fig. 1, showing how the pocket maybe made separately and attached by buttons or fasteners to the garment.
l My pocket may 'be made as a part of the overalls or garment, as shown in- Figs. 1 to 5, or, it may be made as a separate and selfcontained .pocket composed of similar pieces of material which can be attached to overalls or garment, as in Fig. 6. c
The overalls is shown at 1 and the complete pocket at 2. The pocket is provided with the lower sub-pocketsA or compartments any 3 and 4 which have laterally-extending `or Specification of Letters Patent.

opening mouths 5 and 6. The pocket 3 is closedr at its bottom by stitching 7 and up its side to the point 8 where the opening 5 originates. The pocket 4 is closed by stitching 9 at its bottom which extends up to the point 10 where the lower end of the opening 6 originates. The pockets 3 and 4 are separated and demarked by an intermediate line of stitching or a seam 11 which branches into the seams l2 and 13 that close the tops of 'the pockets 3 and 4 and form the bottoms for the upper, vertically extending subpockets or compartments 14, 15, 16, 17, 18,
19 and 20 which are separated by the parallel, vertical lines of stitching 21. The upper sub-pockets 14, 15, 1G, 17, 18, 19 and 2O are .provided with mouths 22 (F ig. 5). Stitch- In Fig. 6, I have illustrated how the pocket may be manufactured separately of similar pieces of material placed face to face and stitched together to form pockets and sub-pockets and afterward secured to the overalls or any other garment by the use of any suitable buttons or fasteners 24, such, for instance, as-two-part, penetrating point, self-locking buttons or fasteners such as are commonly known.
I am aware that my pocket is susceptible* of modifications and I do not, therefore,
limit myself to the details of its construction, but
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A pocket comprising lower independent sub-pockets separated by stitching and having separate entry mouths opening in opposite directions, and arranged on substantially the same level, and a plurality of independent compartments or sub-pockets extending in a general up-and-down direction and disposed above the lower subpockets and provided lwith entry mouths at their upper portions. v
2. A pocket provided with a central up and down seam or line of stitching having a plurality of upper sub-pockets having laterally diverging upper branches defining closed lower e ds, said last-named subtwo lower sub-pockets, saidsuh-poketszhgwf A 1""por- 10 ing lateral mouths opening l@infnop} ),`0Steledll'ections, and up and down lines of stitch?
