Description

PATENTED SEPT. 10, 1907.
M: w. LAVY. 00mm: WAIST, APPLICATION FILED 1:
Zita 22 for THE NORRIS PETERS :0, WASHINGTON, n. c.
MARTIN W; LAVY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GORSETWAIST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1907.
Application filed February 28, 1907. Serial No. 359,939.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN W. LAVY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset-waists, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to corset covers; and the object thereof is to provide a garment of such class with means in a manner as hereinafter set forth for causing the back of the cover to fit snugly, thereby overcoming any liability of the same wrinkling or gathering, which would impair the fit of the back of an outer waist, as well as mar the appearance of the latter.
A further object of the invention is to provide a corset cover in a manner as hereinafter set forth which is designed particularly for use by stout women so as to overcome theobjection of wearing two covers, the inner one a tight-fitting cover and the outer one a blouse cover, The blouse cover being loose will tend to mar the appearance of the outer waist.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a corset cover in a manner as hereinafter set forth, which shall be simple in its construction, strong, durable, efiicient in its use, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of a novel arrangement of corset cover, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of a corset cover in accordance with this invention, but it is to be under stood that changes, variations, and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a corset cover in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a view with the cover extended, looking towards the inner face thereof, and, Fig. 3 is a detail showing one of the flaps for causing the back of the cover to fit tight.
Referring to the drawings by reference characters, 1 denotes the back of the cover which is formed of a series of sections suitably secured together by'rows of stitching l. The cover further comprises the combined sides and fronts 2 which form a continuation of the back. Each of the combined sides and fronts, as well as the back at each upper corner thereof is cut away to form the arm openings 5.
Arranged within the cover is a pair of flaps or wings 6, 6 which have their inner ends secured by the rows of stitching 9 to the rear portion of the combined sides and fronts. The flaps 6, 6 are not as wide as the combined sides and fronts and terminate at a point removed from the bottom, as well as the forward end of the combined sides and fronts. The flaps 6, 6 are so positioned within the cover as to extend above the top edge of the combined sides and fronts, as indicated by the reference character 8. The top edge of each of the flaps extends downwardly at an inclination h'om rear to front and is furthermore disconnected from the combined sides and fronts with the exception of the inner edge thereof. The flap 6 at its front is provided with a series of button holes 10 and the flaps 6 with buttons (not shown). These buttons are adapted to extend through the button holes 10 so as to connect the flaps 6 and 6 together, thereby securing the flaps'around the front of the corset and drawing the body portion 1 of the corset cover tight, thereby preventing the body portion or back from wrinkling or gathering.
The combined side and front 3 is provided with a series of button-holes adapted to receive the buttons 13 upon the combined side and front 2. Provision is therefore made for connecting the combined sides and fronts together so as to inclose the flaps 6, 6. A pocket 12 is provided through which extends the waist-band 11 for drawing the lower portion of the cover snugly around the corset.
What I claim is- A corset cover comprising a body portion, combined sides and fronts connected thereto, said bodyportion and combined sides and fronts having their lower edges terminating slightly below the waist line of the person and slightly above the top edge of the corset and further cut away to form the arm openings, inner flaps having their inner edges secured to the rear of the combined sides and fronts and having the upper portion thereof extending above the top edge of the combined sides and fronts, each of said inner flaps having their top edge extending downwardly at an inclination from rear to front, and said inner flaps having their front edge terminating at a point at the rear of the front edge of the combined sides and fronts and said inner flaps further having their lower edge terminating at a point above the lower edge of said combined sides and fronts.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
