HASKEL SILVERMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SKIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 599,919, dated March 1, 1898.
Application filed November 22, 1897- Serial No. 659,501. (No model.)
York city, State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates generally to improvements in skirts, but more particularly to the form and finish of the plackets thereof.
My invention is specially applicable to garments made of double-faced material and well known as reversible skirts, either side of which maybe worn outward.
The novelty of the invention lies in the form and arrangement of the pocket and placketfly, together with various minor features hereinafter to be fully described.
The accompanying drawings illustrate on embodiment of my invention.
Figure 1 is a View in perspective of a skirt of the class above referred to. Fig. 2 is a view of the portion of the same containing one of the plackets, which latter is shown open to more clearly illustrate the pocket, &c. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the pocket adjusted to the opposite side of the skirt. Fig. 4 is a sectional diagram. Fig. 5 is a like view showing the manner of arranging the pocket and fly to render each side of the skirt presentable, and Fig. 6 is a view in cross-section of the pocket.
Similar numerals represent like parts.
1 represents a skirt of generally-adopted pattern and style designed to form part of either a bicycle or golf skirt, the same being made of either two thicknesses of different material or a single thickness of double-faced material to enable either side to be worn outward. As shown, the skirt is provided, though not necessarily, with duplicate plackets 2 of suitable length and separated, as may be found desirable.
3 represents a pocket which is formed of three pieces of material 4 5 6, joined at the edges by a line of stitching 7, extending from points 8 to 9 and providing duplicate compartments 10 11, entrance to which is facilitated by cutting away the pieces 5 6 to the depth of the placket in the manner shown. The pocket is sewed to one edge of the slit or placket, as indicated by the stitching 12, extending from points 13 to 14, and may be readily adjusted from one side of the skirt to the other, (see Figs. 2 and 3,) and upon being so placed will always present a compartment convenient for use. v
A double fly 15 is attached centrally throughout its length, as at 16, to the opposite edge of the slit or placket, so as to be readily turned about such edge and overlap either side or face of the adjoining portion of the skirt, thereby covering the opening in a manner to give style and finish to the garment, the outer portion of the fly being detachably held in position by suitable fastenings 17, which are preferably concealed and of the form shown. The inner half of the fly or that portion lying within the skirt is adapted to cooperate in forming a continuation of the part 5 of the pocket by being detachably join edto the same through the fastenings 18, (see Figs. 2 and 3,) thus efiectively insuring against articles intended for the pocket being dropped by mistake inside the skirt and lost.
As the readjustment and manner of securing the pocket and fly upon turning the opposite side of skirt outward is clearly illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 a detailed description is not thought necessary. It sufflces to say that after the pocket is properly adjusted the arrangement is directly the reverse of that above described. To gain access to the pocket, the fastenings upon the outer half of the fly are disengaged and entrance to the compartment is disclosed.
The band 19 conforms to the contour of the upper edge of the skirt and fly and is provided with requisite fastenings 20.
Having therefore described my invention, what I claim is 1. A reversible skirt provided with a placket, a pocket accessible from the placket and a flap secured along its central line to one edge of the placket, both outer walls of the and both edges of the flap being provided with placket and both edges of the flap being provided with complemental fasteners.
2. A reversible skirt provided with a placket, a pocket having two compartments accessible from the placket and a double flap secured along its central line to one edge of the placket, both outer walls of the placket complemental fasteners. 10
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
