Description

M. HENKIN Oct. 26, 1943.
GARMENT Filed' Jan. 10, 1942 J INVENTOR.
MARTN HENKIN /37 d? @m ATTORNEY.
Patented Oct. 26, l1943 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,332,114 annum' Martin nenkin, Brooklyn, N. Y. Application January 1o, 1942, serial No. 426,342
a claims. (ci. z-i' This invention relates to new and useful improvements in ladies underwear, such as panties, girdles, etc., and it has for its purpose to provide a non-skid underwear or panty with a removable crotch, whereby such underwear may be used with greater convenience and satisfaction than is the case with those now commonly in use, where the said underwear will have a tendency to creep or slide upwards and getting out of position thereby causing great annoyance to the wearer.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described; claimed and illustrated in the accompanying' drawing, forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan elevational view of my invention, or ladies undergarment, as worn by a lady.
Figure 2 is an elevational View of my improved girdle or panty, proper, as the latter will nor-V mally appear, when not worn by a person.
Figure 3 is a plan View of the outer side of a detachable crotch piece; while Figure 4 is a plan view of the inner thereof.
Figure 5 is a plan View of an undergarment,
side
as described, with parts broken oi, and showing the relative connection of the crotch section of the garment, with the crotch piece removed, and the leg straps of the garment, which latter form the essential feature of my invention.
Figure 6 is a bottom view, looking into the leg portion of a girdle, and showing a leg strap on the side of the leg, and also the strip to which a crotch piece is attached.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the numeral I0 indicates a ladys girdle or panty, which has the usual upper portion I I made of knitted elastic material, with accommodation at the bottom thereof to receive the detachable crotch piece I2, secured to the girdle proper in the usual manner, i. e., by means of snap-fasten` ers, as indicated at I3.
The girdle or panty has, as is generally known, a tendency to slide upward, and to get slightly out of position during the wear by a person, a fact easily observed when noticing how often ladies are exerting a downward pull upon their clothes; this upward movement of the girdle incidentally causes the crotch piece I2 to become wrinkled and to be forcefully drawn upward into the crotch of the wearer, thereby causing great discomfort to the latter.
In order to remedy this condition, I have devised means in the form of elastic straps I4, which latter will retain the girdle in the proper position, and prevent the crotch piece from being drawn or forced upwardly, or become wrinkled; the said object is further achieved by having the crotch piece extendingv side-ways inside of the said straps I4,. which, as may be noted from Figure 2, form a lateralpartial extension to the leg portions I5; the straps I4 are fixedly attached to the latter by seams, as may also be noted in Figure 2. Said straps serve to retain the girdle in the proper position and to prevent the crotch piece from being drawn upwards and become wrinkled, as hereinbefore mentioned.
In further elaborating upon the unique construction of my girdle, it musi; be noted that the crotch piece I2 is made to extend a considerable distance underneath the side straps I4, that is to about half the width of these, as said crotch piece is secured, for instance, by snap-fasteners, to the strips I6, I6, which latter in turn are xedly secured to the body portion of the girdle, and also extend, as said before, a distance underneath the straps I4, to about half the width of these, as may be seen in Figure 6, where the line I'I indicates a folding line in the material.
The strips I6 are secured by seams I8 formed by the leg portions I5 and the straps I4, besides being secured at the center to the body portion of the girdle, as shown at I9.
The usual garters 20 are secured to the leg portions, as shown in Figure 6.
It is obvious that slight changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, Without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I do not, therefore, wish to limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A garment comprising a form fitting body girdle of elastic material, having at its lower part central dividing lines at the frontand back, so as to provide when the material is stretched on a wearer, outer side leg portions, said lines being substantially vertical at their ends on said portions and having medial curved parts just above and around the crotch region, inner side leg extensions, having vertical ends forming permanent junction lines with the vertical lines of the outer leg portions-front and back strips attached to said material along said medial parts and extending partly along said vertical junction lines, and a. crotch piece of inelastic material, having front and back edges releasably attached to said strips, the ends of said piece being embraced by said inner side leg extensions.
2. il garment comprising a form tting girdle of elastic material, having at its lower part, back and front central dividing lines, so as to provide when the material is stretched on a user, outer side leg portions, said lines being then substantially vertical at their ends and having medial curved parts just above and around the crotch region, inner side leg extensions, having vertical ends forming permanent junction lines with'said vertical ends on said outer portions, iront and back strips attached to said material along said curved parts and partly along said junction lines, fastening elements on eachr of said strips and a crotch piece 'of inelastic material, having on opposite side edges thereof fastening elements for releasably cooperating with the ilrst elements, the opposed ends of the crotch piece being free, said free ends being embraced by said extensions against the legs of the user.
