Description

Aug. 16, 193s. M. E. MCCRACKN 2,126,905
UNDERGARMENT Filed NOV. 2l, 1935 Patented Aug. 16, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements in undergarments especially adapted for juvenile ieminine wear and has for its primary object the provision of an improved garment of the character indicated which is of simple and economical construction and highly eiiicient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which- Fig. 1 is a front view of a garment embodying the invention;
Fig. 2, a similar View shown with the front portion thereof broken away;
Fig, 3, a transverse medial vertical section of the garment shown in position of use;
Fig. 4, a detailed view of a rear supporting element employed in the garment and shown detached; and
Fig. 5, an enlarged front View showing the detachable connection at the front.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a waist member Il, preferably of lace or other like porous material, and having elastic straps or bands I2 incorporated therein at each side thereof to permit of placing and holding the same in position on the wearer.
At the rear the waist band is provided with a short depending supporting element I3, and at the front with a longer depending supporting element I4 as shown. The front supporting element i4 is provided with two transverse stiffening bars l5 arranged one slightly above the other and each associated with a pair of eyes I6. The two stiffening bars i5 are provided so that if necessary or desired the lower one of them may be cut oil to effect a better t with the lower edge of the front supporting element terminating substantially level with the hips of the wearer as indicated.
Associated with the Waist member thus provided is a shield member I1, preferably made of transparent waterproof silk and arranged with the silk side thereof next to the body. As shown, the shield member is made comparatively broad at the rear and narrow at the front end, tapering from rear to front. The rear end of the shield is permanently attached as indicated to the lower edge of the rear supporting element I3 by means of a line of stitching I8. At its front the shield is provided with hooks I9 arranged to engage detachably the eyes I6 as shown.
By this arrangement a simple and convenient undergarment is provided for everyday juvenile female wear which is of simple construction, highly efficient 'in use, and may be conveniently and comfortably worn under all circumstances.
(Cl. 12S-289) The shield keeps the body heat and perspiration from outer garments; the adjustment provided for insures proper, smooth fit, and prevents chafing in use; the stiffening at the lower edge of the front supporting element provides for proper stretching of the shield at all times; and a neat and close iitting garment is thus provided which cannot be seen or detected through the outer clothing.
Associated with the shield I'I is a rear triangular supporting member having a depending elastic strap 2|, the supporting member 2li being detachably and adjustably secured to the waist member I I by means of divergent securing straps 22 provided with hooks 23 adapted and arranged to engage eyes 24 secured to the rear side portions of the waist band as shown. Another supporting member 25 in the form of an elastic strip or cord is provided at its end with split or openable rings 26 adapted and arranged to detach ably engage the eyes I6 as indicated, said supporting elements 2l and 25 being provided for use for supporting and holding a catamenial cloth or bandage as and when desired, as will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such Variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A garment of the class described comprising a waist band adapted to encompass the waist of the wearer; a supporting element depending from the front of said waist band and provided with two transverse stiffening bars located at different elevations thereon; two separated eyes on each stiffening bar; a shield member connected with said waist band at the rear and extending thence downwardly, forwardly and upwardly for detachable connection with the lower edge of said front supporting element; hooks at the front end of said shield member for connection with the eyes on either of said stiffening bars; an elastic supporting strap suspended from said waist band by two divergent supporting straps each provided at its upper end with a hook; two sets of supporting eyes at different elevations on said waist band and arranged for adjustable connection with the hooks on said divergent supporting straps; and an elastic strip arranged to be detachably connected with the eyes on either of said stiffening bars.
