This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters.

One of the main objects of the invention resides in a garment supporter for mens use, by which trousers may be supported from the shirt of the wearer, and the shirt held down to prevent accidental creeping up of the bottom of the shirt above the top of the trousers. By the use of a supporter of this kind the uncomfortable effects of the wearing of Suspenders or belts is eliminated.

Another feature of the invention is to provide a garment supporter which provides an elastic connection between the shirt and trousers of a wearer to permit yielding of the garment during the body movements of the wearer.

A further feature of the invention is the provision of a supporter composed of a pair of releasably connected parts, one of which parts is attachable to the shirt andthe other to the trousers of a wearer, whereby the parts may be easily and quickly connected after the trousers have been adjusted to the wearer, or the parts disconnected to facilitate the removal of the trousers from the wearer.

A further object is the provision of a garment supporter for the above mentioned purposes which is entirely concealed from view when in position uponv a wearer, and which fits flat against the body of the wearer in a comfortable manner so as not to interfere with the free body movement.

A still further object of the invention resides in a garment supporter having the above features, which is simple and inexpensive of construction, and strong and durable for the purposes intended.

With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the certain novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring to the drawings by reference characters, and more particularly to the preferred embodiment of my invention shown in Figures 1 to 7 inclusive of the drawings, the numerall I0 designates a shirt attachment which includes a relal5 tively flat T-shaped body member II which may be constructed of Celluloid, metal, or like composition. The T-shaped body member II includes a shank I2 and a cross head I3, the rear face of the cross head extending beyond the plane of the 20 'rear side of the shank I2. The rear face of the head I 3 is provided with a recess I4 which extends the full width of the head so as to open at opposite ends thereof and the opposite walls of the recess are undercut or beveled as at I5. A relatively flat 25 key member I6 is slidable into the rrecess I4 from either end thereof for a purpose to be presently explained.

Extending the full length of the T-shaped body member II in the front face thereof, is a dove- 30 tailed recess I1 within which a slide member I 8 is mounted, the lower end of the slide member eX- tending below the bottom of the shank' I2 and bent rearwardly and upwardly to provide an eye I9 which is disposed beyondk the plane of the rear 35 side of the shank I2. Connected to the eye I9 is one end of an elastic strap 20, the other end of the strap being connected to an eye 2| provided at the rear of the head I3. The elastic strap 20 is disposed rearwardly of the shank I2 and substantially parallel thereto for the purpose of exerting an upward tension upon the slide member I8, which slide member may be moved downwardly against the tension of the elastic strap.

Extending forwardly from the slide member I8 45 adjacent the top thereof, is an elongated T- shaped tongue 22.

Coacting with the shirt attachment I0 in a manner to be presently explained, is a trousers attachment 23 which includes a lsingle length of wire 50 bent to form a frame which includes a central U-shaped portion 24 from which outwardly extending wing portions 25 extend, the wing portions being looped to provide open elongated eyes 26 into which the suspender buttons of a trousers 55 2 are adapted to be received. Extending transversely between the legs of the U-shaped portion 24 and secured thereto by welding or otherwise, is a flat bridge piece 21, the -same being disposed rearwardly of the plane of the U-shaped portion as best seen in Figure '7 of the drawings. The bridge piece 21 is provided with an elongated slot 28 which extends inwardly from the bottom edge thereof and which slot is adapted to receive the shank portion of the T-shaped tonguev 22 when the shirt attachment I is operatively connected to the trousers attachment 23.

In practice, three of the garment supporters may be termed a set as illustrated in Figures l' and 2 of the drawings, two of the supporters being disposed at opposite sides at the front of the wearer and the other supporter at the rear.v

In View of the fact that all of the supporters of a set are of a like construction and operate in a like manner, a description of the attachment ofV one ofthe supporters-tothe wearer and its operation will suffice-for the others.

In the drawings, I have illustrated the picture of a man wearing a shirt A and trousers B. The shirt lattachment' l@ is applied to the shirt A by placing the rear side of the head I3 of the T- shaped member il against the exterior of the shirt 'at approximately the proper location, a portion of the shirt fabric being seated in the recess lli, after which the operator inserts the key member i6 from the inside of the shirt, the key member sliding into the recess I4, whereupon a portion of the shirt fabric is tightly gripped as illustrated in Figure 4. The operator attaches the trousers attachment 23 to the spaced suspender but tons C provided at the inside of the trousers at the waist band, the sew on threads of the buttons being received inthe open eyes 26 of the wire frame. For comfort, the trousers attachment 23 may be slightly curved or bowed as shown in Figure 6 to conform to the shape of the body of the wearer. With the trousers attachment 23 in position as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, it is apparent that by placing the bridge piece 21 above the tongue 22, the tongue may be brought into interlocking engagement with the bridge piece, and the weight of the trousers supported by the yieldable slide member i8. It will be appreciated that with the trousers yieldably supported in this manner that sufficient give is provided'for the body movements of the wearer and that theY tails of the shirt are held down againstaccidental upward creeping above the top of the trousers. When it is desired to remove the trousers, it is only necessary to lift upwardly upon the tops of the same so that the bridge piece 21 is disengaged from the tongue 22. Y From the foregoing description, it will be seen that the shirt attachment il! is connected to the shirt in a manner as not to tear or mutilate the same and may be removed by withdrawing the key member 'lli to permit laundering of the'shirt. -Also the trousers attachment 23 may be disconnected from the suspender buttons C during pressing o-r' cleaning of the trousers. v

The lower ends of the legs 32 are provided with opposed outwardly extending eyes 34 which have attached thereto the lower ends of elastic straps `{S-$5, the other ends of the straps extending upwardly and connected to eyes 36-36 in the cross head portion of the T-shaped body 30. The elastic straps 35 are substantially parallel to the shankv portion of the T-shaped body memlber 30 and serve to impart an upward tension the wire frame member. Extending outthe legs 32 and disposed above the plane of the top ofthe T-shaped body member 30, are wing portions 31 having elongated eyes 38 in the form of hooks into which the sew on threads of the suspender' buttons are adapted to be received andina manner hereinbefore explained.

In this form of the invention, the T-shaped body member 30v is attached to the shirt of the wearer andthe trousers drawn about the waist of the wearer and the sew on threads of the buttons inserted into the eyes 38. The trousers will therefore be yieldably supported in the same manner as set forthin the preferred form.

While I have referred to the `supporter as being primarily used in conjunction with mens shirts and trousers, the same may be Aemployed by women when wearing blouses and skirts, or for such other purposes when it is desired to support one garment from another. Also, any number of supporters may be used to constitute a set, althoughV I have specically stated that three constitute a set.

Whereas, I have shown and described what I consider tobe the. most practical embodiments of my invention, I wish it to be understood that such changes and alterations as come within the appended claims may be resorted to if desired.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, `is:-

l; A garment supporter of the class described comprising in combination, a shirt attachment including a rigid elongated body member, means for detachably securing said elongated body member to a shirt in a substantially vertical position, a slide member mounted in said body. member, vtension means tending to move said slide member upwardly, a trousers attachment for connection tothe suspender buttons of trousers,

and means on said trousers attachment and slide i memberfor releasably connecting said shirt attachment to trousers attachment.

A garment supporter'of the class described comprising in combination, a shirt attachment including a flat rigid elongated body member Cil having a longitudinal recess opening in the front side thereof, means at the rear of said body member for detachably securing the same to the exterior of a Wearers shirt, a slide member mounted for sliding movement n said recess, an elastic strip having one end secured to said body member adjacent the top thereof and its other end fastened to the lower end of said slide member, a trousers attachment having means for securing the same to the suspender buttons of trousers, and a tongue and slot connection between said slide member and said trousers attachment to operatively connect the same together and prevent pivotal movement therebetween.
