PANTY GIRDLE' 2 Sheet-Sheet 2 Filed March 14, 1946 I u I N V EN TOR. [IV/Z6 1E. Gal's/$620M Patented Aug. 2, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates, in general, to undergarments, and more particularly to the type of garment known as a pantie-girdle, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide an improved garment of this character, which embodies a detachable crotch portion that may be quickly and easily detached from the girdle, and a fresh or clean crotch portion as readily attached to the girdle in place thereof.
Another object is to provide a girdle of this character, having a detachable crotch portion which may be readily removed so that the same may be Washed or cleaned without necessitating the cleaning of any other portion of the girdle.
A further object is to provide an improved pantie-girdle of this character, embodying a removable crotch :piece which will not cause any discomfort to the wearer, and which crotch piece may be entirely or partially detached while on the wearer.
A further object is to provide an improved pantie-girdle having a crotch piece formed of any suitable material, and which is secured to the girdle by means of slidable fastening devices commonly known as zipper fasteners, and improved means for protecting the fasteners whereby no metal will contact the body of the wearer.
A still further object is to provied an improved crotch piece for a pantie-girdle of this character, which crotch rpiece is of a substantially rectangular configuration, thereby not only insuring a comfortable fit, but necessitating no shaping to conform to the shape of the adjacent portion of the girdle, and which can be made with no waste of material, and may be easily laundered.
To the attainment of these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects as will appear, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several features, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawings illustrating this invention, in which Fig. 1 is a front view of a pantie-girdle, constructed in accordance with the principles of this invention, as it would appear on a wearer.
Fig. 2 is a rear view, showing one end of the crotch piece detached from the girdle.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view, showing the crotch piece secured to th girdle, with a portion of the crotch piece detached.
Fig. 4 is an elevational View of the girdle with the crotch Ipiece detached, and with the portion to which the crotch piece is to be applied, in position to receive the crotch piece.
Fig. 5 is a view of the girdle with the crotch piece completely attached thereto, and in position to form the pantie girdle.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the crotch piece.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the girdle H) is constructed of any suitable material, or such material as is commonly used for garments of this character, and is initially of the usual tubular construction,-- and of a suitable length so as to fit and conform itself to the figure of the wearer. One end of the tubular body is split, or otherwise formed, toprovide two leg or thigh-engaging portions l l, terminating in unconnected front and rear edges I2. Secured along each of the symmetrical and slightly concaved edges adjacent the leg portions II, is a section of a slide fastening device I3 shaped to a conforming and substantially coextensive concavity, and movable or slidabl along each of these sections is a slide device I 4.
Beneath each of the fastening sections I3 is arranged a shield or flap [5, of any suitable material such as fabric or the like, whereby to prevent the metal of the fastening device or fastening means from contacting the body of the wearer. One of these fastening sections, that is, a slide and a protecting flap, is arranged on each of the lower edges of the leg portions, and they extend through the length of such portions.
A crotch member l6 of any suitable fabric, and of a substantially rectangular configuration, forms the crotch piece, and arranged along each of the opposite edges or ends thereof are sections ll of the fastening device, and these sections I! extend substantially throughout the length of such ends, the usual slide guide end [8 being provided at the end of the fastening section. The fastener sections I! are applied to the crotch member [6, a short distance from the ends of the crotch member, to provide a shield or flap whereby to prevent any metal from contacting the body of the wearer. As shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the fastening ends of the crotch member l6 correspond in length to the edges 12 of the girdle body I0.
It will also be noted that a shaped reinforcing strip 19 is secured to each edge [2 adjacent the innermost side of the respective fastening section l3 and parallel thereto.
With this improved construction, it will be apparent that a removable crotch piece is provided which will be comfortable, and will conform to the body of the wearer, and which, being of softer material than the girdl will not cause any chafing. Furthermore, it may be readily removed while the girdle is being worn, or when not being worn, and a new or clean one substituted therefor. It may also be partially or wholly removed while being worn, to permit natural functions, and at no time will there be any metal in contact with the body of the wearer.
With this type of fastening means, the point of juncture of the crotch piece with the girdle will be entirely closed, and the danger of providing open spaces throughout such edges, if
buttons or other fastening means are employed;
is avoided. Furthermore, the inconvenience of the buttons or other fastening means becoming lost, detached, or left open, willralso be avoided. With the use of a zipper fastening and a saddle crotch, here disclosed, the girdle will be prevented from creeping up the legs, and the girdle and crotch piece will be ota substantially integral construction. The saddlecrotch is of such a size as to depend a substantial distance below the body [I] (Figs. 3, 5), andto: provide seat and'fr'oht panel portions when worn. x
While the preferred ormjbf the invention has been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangeme'rrtofthe several parts, within the scope of the claim, without departing iro'm'the spirit of this invention.
What is claimed as; new is:
As an article of feminine apparel, a pantieegir- 'dle comprising a seleeorirormm waist and hip encircling tubular body having an open lower end portion formed to define opposite thigh-engaging portions terminating in unconnected front and rear edges, said edges being symmetrically and only slightly concaved along substantially their entire lengths, a section of slide fastening device secured adjacent each edge with a conforming and substantially coextensive concavity, a reinforcing strip secured to each of said edges adjacent the innermost side of the respective section and extending parallel thereto, a rectangular crotch member having opposite ends corresponding in length to the free front and rear edges of the tubular body, and a section of slide fastening device secured across each opposite end of the crotch member and interconnected with the adjacentsection of slide fastening device on the tubular body to connect the respective edges and ends continuously throughout substantially their entire common lengths, the thus joined crotch member being of a size to depend a substantial distance below the tubular body and with the said thighenga'gin'g portions to encircle the thighs of a wearer and provide seat and front panel portions.
