Description
Patente d Dec. 7, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT ,OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in infant diapers and has for its particular object the provision of an improved diaper formed'from a single piece of material and having fastening means thereon which hold it in body formation and-properly upon an infant. Another important object of the invention is the provision of a zipper type fastener arranged on the diaper body, whereby said diaper may be easily, quickly, and Conveniently put on and taken off.
A further object of this invention is the provision of an improved diaper and fastening means therefor, which will eliminate the use of tie strings, buttons, safety pins or the like, thus eliminating any danger to the baby's body when the diaper is applied thereto.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a removable fastening means for diaper to be used or reused without injury to ing means and equipped with means to retain an insert therein when worn so that when the diaper proper is removed the insert can be destroyed and the diaper reused by the replacing of a new insert.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain -novel features, com: bination ,and arrangement of parts as will be hereinaftr' more fully described, pointed out in the accompanying drawing, and claimed.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a front elevational View of my improved diaper, as made in accordance with this invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the diaper, showing the same slightly opened at one side in dotted lines;
Figure 3 is an open plan view of my improved diaper showing a modification of a retaining means of an insert; and,
Figure 4 is a modified form of the improved diaper, showing the removability of the zipper fastening means.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a substantial rectangular body of cloth, or
the diaper body which permits the body of the provision of a diaper having removable fastenthe same could" be "rubberized material or any material suitable for 'the purpose. This substantial rectangular body 5 is provided at each end with flaps 6 constituting a waist band element when fastened together. The opposite side longitudinal edges of the body 5 are provided intermediate their ends with substantially triangular extensions l that when the body is folded centrally of its ends provide leg openings 8 when the body is fitted upon an infant.
The side longitudinal edges of the extensions and flaps 6 of the body 5 are provided with coacting zipper structures 9, and the zipper structure starts at a point from the circumference of the leg openings 8 and ends at the peripheral circumferential edge of the waist band 6. Thus it can be seen that when the body element 5 is folded centrally of its ends and the zipper member 9 fastened, it provides a continuous diaperlike structure, as clearly illustrated in Figures 1, 2, and 4 of the drawing.
One portion of the flap 6 is divided to provide e overlapping ends ID, one of which is provided with buttons or other suitable fastening means ll to be arranged in coacting fastening elements |2 so that the flaps 6 constituting the waist band may be adjusted to various sized bodies when the device is in use.
It can be readily understood from an inspection of the drawing that the body 5 can be made of any material suitable for the purpose, more particularly cloth, or it may be made of rubberized cloth and constitute an outer garment only. When used and made of rubberized cloth, the body 5 is provided with tape members |3 fastened at their ends as at [4, to the interior of the body 5 as at 15. These tapes provide anchoring means for retaining a removable element [6 to the interier of the body and thereby provide a means for the permitting of a' removable insert to the diaper when in use that can be discarded at will without injurying or affecting the body 5 proper.
In Figure 4 the body 5 is identical with the structures shown in Figures 1, 2, and 3, with the exception that the zipper member 9 is detachably secured to the side edges of the body and extensions, 5 and 1, respectively, by suitable fastem'ng elements'l'l. This removability of the fastening element 9 permits the body 5 to be laundered or otherwise cleaned without in any way affecting or subjecting the fastening element 9 to laundering action.
It is also to be understood that this invention is not limited in its use as a diaper, as it can be made into undies of the type of shorts, or it could also be used as a. sanitary napkin, particularly with its removable insert, as the outside cover thereot or body 5 could be made of such material necessary to protect outer garments and the removable insert destroyed when desired.
It will be apparent that other and slight variations in shape and structure may be accomplished without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I 10 claim as new is:
A diaper of the class described, comprising a MARGERIE C. RHODES.
