PANTY GIRDLE Filed Dec. 14, 1953 g PAM/.A 52,4717' ArraR/ve'y United States Patent O PANTY GIRDLE Paula Blatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application December 14, 1953, Serial No. 397,994
Claims. (Cl. 2-41) This invention relates to the general class` of wearing apparel and, more specifically, is for a combination of girdle and panty,
The object of my present invention is to ydevise a girdle that is especially adapted to be worn with decided comfort during the period of pregnancy and in which there is provided an expansible front portion corresponding substantially to the entire abdominal region of the body of the wearer.
Another object is to devise such a girdle that may or may not have garters attached thereto for supporting the stockings of the wearer and that will maintain its normal position upon the wearers body even when the stockings are not attached thereto.
Another object is to -devise such a combined garment that is so constructed as to serve as a girdle and also will permit manipulation of certain portions as a panty for personal use.
Another object is to devise such a combined garment that is so constructed as to adapt itself to the body of the wearer in such manner as to ensure elliciency, comfort and `dependability in the use for which intended.
Other objects will appear from the following description and claims when considered together with the accompanying drawing.
Fig. l is a perspective front View illustrating my present panty girdle upon the body of the wearer;
Fig. 2 is a perspective rear view of the garment;
Fig. 3 is a side view thereof upon the wearers body.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing, my present garment may be recognized as comprising a front part, a rear part, and a crotch part, to be now more fully described. The rear part consists of a single blank 1 of comparatively light, soft fabric that is so designed as to have suitable fulness for the purpose intended and is of such extent as to be adapted to freely cover the entire buttock of the body of the wearer and is of elastic nature r in only the horizontal direction. The front part consists of the body 2 of heavier material, as for instance plisse, that is of elastic nature in only the vertical direction and a substantially tf-shaped portion 3 of light, soft fabric that is of elastic nature in only the vertical direction and that is inserted into the corresponding cut-out area of the plisse body portion 2 and is connected thereto by sewing along the downwardly and forwardly inclined edges corresponding approximately to the groins of the body of the wearer and with hidden fulness upon both sides of the seams, this inserted V-shaped portion being of such form and extent that it is adapted to cover in a comfortable manner substantially the entire abdominal region of the body of the wearer. The front portion 2 may be made of two duplicate parts sewed together at the lower middle part thereof, as at 4, and will be so designed as to be inclined outwardly and upwardly in this region so as to alord an uplifting means of engagement beneath the lower part of the abdomen, the front portion 2 having a snug lit throughout its entire extent. The front portion 2 and the rear part 1 are sewed together along lines corresponding approximately to the vertical side lines of the wearers body; and there is provided a hidden fulness in the plisse 2 along the side seams for increased fulness upwardly as may be required by the natural enlargement of the abdomen.
The crotch part 5 of soft fabric has its rear and front ends sewed to the rear part 1 and the body of heavier material 2, respectively, and is of an elastic nature only in a direction between its front and rear ends. These several parts are so connected together as to provide leg openings which have hidden fulness along the attached narrow strips of elastic, as indicated at 6, so as to afford an effective and comfortable engagement about the thighs of the wearer. About the upper edge of the rear part 1 there is attached with some hidden fulness a comparatively wide and substantial strip of elastic 7 so as to provide lirm, eiective and dependable supporting engagement in the region of the sacroiliac joint of the body of the wearer; and a comparative narrow strip 8 of elastic is provided about the upper edge of the front part of the garment with hidden fulness for effective and comfortable supporting engagement in connection with the rear elastic strip 7 At the edges of the leg openings there may be suspended the garter attachments 9 for ready detachable connection of the conventional garters for the stockings. My present form of combined panty and girdle may be worn either with or without the garters and is not dependent upon the stockings to hold this garment in proper position. That is, this panty-girdle may be depended upon to maintain its proper position upon the body of the wearer either without or with garters and stockings as it will not creep or ride up the body of the wearer when the stockings and garters are omitted, this being made possible by the particular form and manner of engagement of the present garment upon the body of the wearer.Y
vAs may be observed, the V-form of insert 3 corresponds substantially to the extent of the abdomen of the body of the wearer and is provided with suitable fulness and is capable of suiricient extension to accommodate the increase in size and form of the wearers body in this particular region during the succeeding stages of pregnancy, particular reference being had to that region comprised between the groins of the wearers body. Then the laterally adjoining front portion 2 of comparatively heavy elastic material serves to afford efficient and dependable support for the main body of the garment .in snug manner upon and about the body of the wearer while permitting still further upward extension thereof with the V-shaped portion 3 in order to accommodate the natural expansion of the wearers body in the abdominal region, as illustrated in the present drawing. At the same time, the lateral elasticity of the rear part 1 and the longitudinal elasticity of the crotch part 5 permit these parts to be extended and manipulated to one side whenever desired for personal use by the wearer and without disturbing the position of the main part of this combined garment.
Thus I have devised a combined garment that is capable of serving as a girdle and at the same time as a panty. Also, the girdle is capable of automatic expansion or extension in the region of the abdomen of the body of the wearer so as to aord continued comfort during the entire period of pregnancy while at the same time providing sufficient support and uplift for the middle region of the wearers body, including the abdomen, to ensure a sense of comfort and security at all times. Also, this sensation of security is further enhanced by the firm. means of support about the region of the sacroiliac joint, thereby ensuring firm and dependable position of the garment at all times, even during manipulation of the rear and crotch parts for personal use. Thus the use of this garment in its one capacity does not interfere with its functioning in its other capacity.
A still further advantage of this invention resides in the fact that this garment may be worn with or without garters and stockings, and without disturbing the sensation of comfort and security throughout the entire garment and without interfering with the manipulation of the rear and crotch parts whenever desired for personal use as a panty.
This combined garment is of comparatively simple form and construction and may be manufactured and sold at a popular price.
Other advantages will no doubt suggest themselves to those who are familiar with the art to which this invention relates.
It is to be understood that the present form of disclosure is merely for the purpose of illustration and that there might be devised various modifications thereof without departing from the spirit of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.

being of elastic nature only in the direction from front to rear thereof, the extent of the girdle comprising only said rear part, said front part with its V-shaped insert, and said crotch part.
2. The same structure as recited in claim 1 hereof and in which a longitudinally elastic strip of substantial width is attached about the top edge of said rear part so as to afford means of substantial support in the region of the sacroiliac joint of the body of the wearer and in which a longitudinally elastic strip of lesser width is attached about the top edge of said front part.
3. The same structure as recited in claim 1 hereof and in which a longitudinally elastic strip of substantial width is attached about the top edge of said rear part so as to afford means of substantial support in the region of the sacroiliac joint of the body of the wearer, and in which a longitudinally elastic strip of lesser width is attached about the top edge of said front part, and in which the lower edges of said front and rear parts provide openings for the legs of the wearer and have longitudinally elastic strips attached with hidden fulness about the edges of said leg openings so as to be adapted to firmly engage the thighs of the wearer.
4. The same structure as recited in claim 1 hereof and in which there is provided hidden fulness between said V shaped portion and said front body of heavy fabric along said line of connection therebetween and in which there is hidden fulness in said body of heavy fabric along its lines of connection to said rear part.
5. The same structure as recited in claim 1 hereof and in which said body of heavy fabric has its front lower region formed so as to be inclined upwardly and outwardly for engagement beneath the abdomen of the body of the wearer.
