Description

P. BLATT Sept. 18, 1956 PANTY Filed April 5, 1954 in m WM N W5 p m r M W4 0 Unite States Patent .PANTY Paula Blatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application .April 5, 1954, Serial-Nor 420,886 2 Claims. (CL 2-41) This invention relates .to the .general .art -.of .womens wearing apparel and more specifically, is for-animproved form of panty.
One object of my .presentinvention is to devise arpant-y which may be worn either with or without garters and .stockingsand with thesamecomplete comfort andisatis- .faction in either-case. 7 Another object is .todevise apanty with-means .forminga unitarypart thereof 'for aifording' efficientand comfortable supporting or -uplifting engagement beneath the lower part .of the abdomen of the wearer during the 'period of pregnancy.
.Another object .is 'to devise a panty with leg-shielding means as -a unitary part thereof was toprevent chafing of .the wearers legs or binding in the region o'fthecrotch of :the lwearefls .body.
Another object is to devise -.a .panty with .a :built-in elastic means vfor .supportingsor uplifting engagement beneath the abdomen of the wearers body during :pregnancy and in which the (front part of the ;panty .is provided with suitable added fulness inthe region above the abdomen-supportingelastic means .and with asnug fit .in the region below the built-inelastic means so as tosupplement the same inwaffording ,most efficient uplifting engagement beneath the abdomen of the wearer, while at the same time there is provided *suitable added fulness in the lower partof the panty-at the rear thereof.
Another object is to devise a parity with horizontally elastic front and rear-and-side parts which are joined along lines corresponding to the groins of the body -of the wearer and which are gathered along longitudinally elasticstrips within such joints or seams so as to :provide elasticity or stretch in -a vertical direction also.
"Other objects will appear from the following description and claims when considered together with the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of my present improved panty remove'd'fro mthe body of the wearer;
'Fig. Zis a rear perspective 'view'o'f the same under the same condition;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the panty when applied to the body of the wearer; and
Fig. 4 is a partial view illustrating how the parts are joined together at the front to form the leg-shielding portions in the region of the crotch of the wearer.
It is to be understood that the present form of disclosure is merely for the purpose of illustration and that there might be devised various modifications thereof without departing from the spirit of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing in detail, my present panty includes a front part 1, a rear-and-side part 2 and a crotch part 3. As will be seen from the accompanying drawing, the rear part 2 has forwardly extending portions 2a which are adapted to extend about the hip regions of the wearers body and, as a matter of convenience, this combined part is here referred to as the rear-and-side part.
The front ,part 1 may be made dfa material .known' in the trade as Halenca WhiC'hfCOnSiStS :of :nylon and which -has elasticity in only one direction, that'is transversely in thet present case. The front part 1.:is designed to :exitendioverthe entireabdominal region ofthe sbody of the zwearer and'is'attached =byrsewing to thesrear part'l2 along lines corresponding approximately to the groins of the wearers :body.
The-rear-and-sideiparttmay'beimadetofisoft'lightaweight fabric that has elasticity iin'only thehor'izontal direction in. the. present caseyand thecrotch par-t Btmay be made of "the same material as just mentioned, theicrotch'part being connected at its two "ends to the front and reanand=siiie :parts, respectively, and possessingel'asticity :in only the horizontal direction.
The :reareandeside and crotchtpatts :are -c0nne'e'te'd Ito- -gether 'so as to lform :leg openings which have ie'la stic stape about .the edges thereof, with gathered rfulness thereaabout so as ttorprovide'eifective and co'mfortableengagement -ofthersame about the'legs of the wearer. The edges of rth'e Pleg openings have the garter :attachments 7 IO which v{garters may orimay not 'be idetachably connected :according to whether it. is desired to wear stockings.
The adjacent portions of :the :rear and-side and-crotch F parts at :the front .are extended downwardly at the'seams '4 therebetween, which accordingly extend downwardly along the upper parts of the rthighs of :the wearers body so astmthereby .provide-legeshielding portions 4 ito poin'ts below the crotch iregion of the wearer3s ibody .and so as to thereby a-void iany chafing or binding .in this region, the rear end of the crotch part being fsulficie'ntlywide'ito c'o operate towards this accomplishment although of less Widfh th an the 'front: end thereof.
Bu'iltin as a unitar-y part 'of the front part =1, :1 "have provided the longitudinallyelastic.strip :5 athatis attached at its two ends at the :seams between the front part1 and the rear-and-side :part and has :only :its :lower :edge attached to the front part 1 with gathered fulness, r as indicated by 'reference numeral d 'Phe elasticstripiS :is so located as -to have uplifting engagement with the ".underside' of'the-abdomen-of' the wearers :body :when the=panty is in position thereupon. When the panty is removed from the body ofth'e wearer, the elastic strip 5 :will extend-along a downwardly curved path from its twoends, =as in'dicate'd in' Fig. l =of the accompanying drawing, although its direction of extent will be changedsomewhat when' the dront part and thez'strip 5 -are distended'upon application to the body of the wearer, as indicated :in Fig. '8 ot the'presentdrawin'g.
The ""top edge of the "rear-'and 'side part :has :attached thereabout a longitudinally elastic strip 9 with gathered "fulness so as "to ensurefirm'butcomfortalneiengagement about and-upon the sacroiliac region :of the ihodyiof athe wearer for support of the garment in proper position. The combined elasticity of the upper edge portions of the front and rear-and-side parts of the panty may be suflicient as a means for maintaining the panty in proper position about the body of the wearer. When not in position upon the body of the wearer, the upper edge portion of the front part 1 may naturally roll upon itself as a reserve; but, when in normal position upon the body of the wearer, this rolled edge portion may be unrolled so as to extend upwardly over and about the enlarged abdomen of the wearers body in a somewhat peaked manner as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the accompanying drawing.
Within the seams between the front part 1 and the side portions 2a of the rear-and-side part I have provided the longitudinally elastic narrow strips 8 which will serve still further to hold the garment in upright position especially as the front part 1 is extended upwardly during the advancing stages of pregnancy. Both the front part 1 and the side portions 2a will be gathered along the elastic strips 8 throughout the entire extent thereof so as to permit the strips 8 to function in the manner intended; and there will be provided still further fulnexs in the upper portion of the front part 1 and in the lower portion of the rear-and-side part 22a even when the elastic strips 8 have been stretched to the full extent permitted. Thus the up-and-down elasticity that is afforded by the strips 8 supplement the horizontal elasticity of the front part 1 and the rear-and-side part 22a and of the elastic strip 7 in maintaining the garment in proper position upon the body of the wearer during the progressive stages of pregnancy.
Since the front part 1 in the region below the strip is adapted for snug engagement about and beneath the abdomen of the body of the wearer at all times during the period of pregnancy and Without any such additional fulness as above referred to, the lower portion of the front part 1 will co-operate with the elastic strip 5 in providing an uplifting or supporting elfect beneath the undersurface of the abdomen of the wearers body. As above noted, the lower portion of the rear-and-side part 22a is provided with added fulness even when the elastic strips 8 have been stretched to their full extent and is gathered about the elastic strips at the leg openings, such fulness and elasticity facilitating the manipulation of the rear part of the panty for personal use.
Thus I have devised a panty with effective and comfortable means of support about the waist portion of the body of the wearer and with a marked degree of elfective uplifting engagement beneath the lower part of the wearers abdomen so as to produce a combined supporting engagement for the panty about the abdominal region of the body of the wearer.
Also, there is provided suitable fullness in the front part of the panty for accommodation of the enlarged abdomen during all stages of the period of pregnancy; While at the same time the lower front part of the panty is adapted to co-operate with the special means for the uplifting engagement beneath the abdomen of the wearer. This panty may be put on or taken ofi by the wearer with utmost convenience by virtue of the combined elasticity, as above described, in spite of the abnormally enlarged contour of the abdominal region of the wearers body during the period of pregnancy.
The comfort in the wearing of this panty is still further enhanced by the provision of the leg-shielding portions to prevent chafing or binding in the region of the crotch of the wearer.
With the effective engagement of the elastic strip 5 and the lower portion of the front part 1 beneath the abdomen of the wearer, there will be ensured proper position of the panty upon the wearers body whether or not garters and stockings are Worn; and thus the wearing of stockings with this improved form of panty is entirely a matter of choice upon the part of the wearer. Such proper positioning of the panty at all times and under any and all conditions is further ensured by the elasticity afforded by the strips 8 in the seams between the front part 1 and the side portions 2a.
Still further advantages may suggest themselves to those who are familiar with the art to which this invention relates.
What I claim is:
1. A panty comprising a rear-and-side part of laterally elastic soft fabric, a front part of laterally elastic fabric that is heavier than said rear-and-side part and that is joined thereto along lines corresponding approximately to the groins of the body of the wearer and that extends upwardly to the waist region of her body, a crotch part of soft fabric connected at its ends to said rear-and-side part and said front part, respectively, and providing therewith leg openings, and a longitudinally elastic strip of substantial width attached throughout its length to the inner surface of said front part and extending laterally across the lower abdominal-covering portion of the panty and above the bottom of said front part thereof so as to afford an uplifting engagement beneath the abdomen of the wearer, and the adjacent portions of said crotch and rear-and-side parts being extended downwardly with the seams therebetween adapted to extend downwardly along the upper parts of the wearers thighs so as to thereby provide shielding portions for the inner parts of the wearers legs in the region of her crotch.
2. A panty comprising a rear-and-side part of laterally elastic fabric, a front part of laterally elastic fabric that is joined to said rear-and-side part along lines corresponding to the groins of the body of the wearer and extending upwardly to a point corresponding to the waist region of her body, and a crotch part of substantial width throughout its entire extent having its front and rear ends attached to said front and rear-and-side parts, respectively, the adjacent portions of said crotch and rear-andside parts that correspond to the inner sides of the wearers legs extending downwardly substantially below the crotch so as to provide downwardly extending legshielding portions for the inner parts of the wearers legs in the region of the crotch of her body.
