3 Claims. 01. 128-528) The invention is concerned with improvements in a pantie girdle which accordingly is the type of girdle having confine and support the desired body portions and is relatively light weight and comfortable and also is attractive in appearance.

The garment embodies particularly a front panel section comprised of pieces of a certain shape and related to the leg and crotch portions in such a way as to exert a desired firm support over the lower part of the abdomen but which requires a minimum of material and permits free leg movement and other normal. body movements. The general arrangement and elfect also are such as to cause the girdle to assume and remain in proper position on the body.

The invention accordingly comprises an undergarment possessing the features and the relation of parts which will be exemplified in the garment hereinafter described, and the scope of the invention will be indicated in the claims.

For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention reference should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. l is a front view in elevation of an assembled garment embodying the features of the invention;

Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same garment;

Fig. 3 is a perspective showing the normal position of the girdle on the body;

Fig. 4 is a view of two sections of fabric as initially cut and adapted to be placed in overlapped position and form the front panel of the garment; and

Fig. 5 shows the two pieces of fabric comprising the front panel placed in overlapped position prior to being sewn into the girdle.

The garment which is shown assembled in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a pantie girdle having a front panel section 10, side panels 11 and 12, a rear panel section 13 and a crotch portion 14. The garment also may have as shown an upper band at the waist 15 with opposed ends terminating at and sewn into the edges of the front panel section at 16 and 17. The leg portions are also each provided with a

18 and 19 respectively sewn into the lower edges of the corresponding sections of the body of the pantie girdle. The

15, 18 and 19 are preferably formed of ribbed material having considerable capacity to stretch in the peripheral direction.

An important feature of the garment comprises the construction and arrangement of the front panel section and its relation and connection to the other parts of the garment. As shown in Fig. 4 the front panel comprises two pieces of material 22 and 23 adapted when assembled in the garment to be arranged in overlapping relation. Fig. 5 shows the pieces so arranged prior to being stitched into the garment. As indicated the pieces are of some what irregular shape but symmetrical with respect to each 2,875,765 Patented Mar. 3, 1959 ICC the two pieces coincide and at one side are sewn by a common seam 25 to the side panel 12, the side of the top piece 23 terminating at a point 26 above the bottom edge of the under piece 22. Correspondingly' the opposite edges of the two pieces are sewn to the side panel 11 by a seam 27 and the edge of section 22 on that side terminates at a point 28 above the bottom of the top piece 23. The upper edges of the two pieces at the waist are preferably folded over and finished with an inner tape section 30 as shownrparticularly in Fig. 2. The lower narrow edge portions of the two sectionsare stitched to the crotch portion 14 along a seam 31 as indicated particularly in Fig. 1.

The two pieces 22 and 23 may be comprised of various types of material but preferably are of non-elastic material such as marquisette so as to provide a firm support for theabdomen. Preferably also the pieces are so cut as to have the warp threads extending at an angle across the front and at an oppositely inclined angle with respect to each other. In other words, as shown in Fig. 4, the section 22 has warp threads extending as indicated at 34 and the section 23 has warp threads extending at the inclined angle shown at 35. Accordingly when the pieces are placed in overlapped position the opposite inclination of the threads serves to eliminate substantially any tend- 'ency to stretch and with a corresponding firm support for the abdomen. and. freedom. from bulges. The crotch portion 14 is comprised of elastic material which may be twoway stretch, but of particular importance has substantial elasticity through the crotch from front to back and including a portion in the back extending to the seam 35 where the crotch'portion is connected to the rear panel 13.

The cut and material of the side panel sections 11 and 12 and the rear panel section 13 may vary and if desired could be made in one piece. Preferably "these sections are of elastic material and particularly have elasticity in the peripheral direction around the garment.

Fig. 3 shows the pantie girdle positioned on the body and illustrates the relation of the parts and particularly indicates the location of thecurved edges 23a and 22a of the respective pieces 23 and 22. It will be noted that these curved edges follow substantially the groin line at the corresponding side of the body or if desired may be positioned slightly above the groin line. It is to be noted also that the respective edges 23a and 22a are free and unstitched to the other overlapping or underlying piece as the case may be. The arrangement provides a comfortable garment permitting freedom of action but nevertheless effective support for a garment of its type.

The garment if desired may be provided with suitable garters as indicated at 36, and they may be made detachable by the provision of conventional means for that purpose such as metal clips 37 adapted to hook into loops 38 sewn to the girdle. It will be noted that the front garters are connected to the lower ends of the respective side seams 25 and 27 comprising reinforced areas to absorb the stresses exerted by the garters.

The specific garments embodying the invention are referred to in the specification and claims as a pantie girdle, but it is intended that the term comprehend any garment which is of a body confining type with individual leg encircling portions and a body portion extending upwardly to the waist whether or not it also includes parts for the upper body. Various changes in that and in other respects may be made in the garment without departing from the scope of the invention and it is intended that all matter contained herein shall be, inter preted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

1. In a pantie girdle having a body portion, a crotch portion and individual leg encircling portions, the combination of a front panel having overlapping pieces adapted to, extend over the major area of the abdominal region of the wearer, each secured into generally vertical opposite side seams extending down into substantially the middle of the front part of the respective leg portion, a first one of said pieces having a free unsecured edge portion extending. at an angle from a first one of the side seams. downwardly and transversely into the crotch portion at the side of the crotch. toward said first seam with an edge part sewn into the crotch portion, and the other piece having an opposite symmetri cally arranged free unsecured edge portion extending at an angle from: the-other side seam downw rdly and transversely into the crotch portion at: the side of the. crotch toward said other seam with an edge part sewn into, the crotch portion, and the two pieces together with, the crotch portion forming a closed frontand erotehi area.

2. In a pantie girdle having a body portion, a crotch portion and individual leg encircling portions, the combination of a front panel having overlapping piecesadapted. to extend over the major portion in the transverse direction of the abdominal regionv of the wearer, each secured into. generally vertical opposite side seams extending down into substantially the middle of the front part of the respective leg portion, a first one of said: pieces having a free. unsecured edge portion extending at an angle. from a first one of the side seamsdownwardly and transversely into the crotch: portion at the side of the crotch toward said. first seam with: anedge part sewn. into the crotch portion, and the. other: piece having an opposite: symmetrically arranged free unsecured edge. portion extending, at an angle from the other side seam downwardly and transversely into. the crotch portion at the side of the crotch toward said other seam with an edge part sewn into the crotch portion, said free edge portions being adapted to occupy positions corre- 'sponding substantially to the groin line of the wearer at the respective side, and the two said pieces together with the crotch portion forming a closed front and crotch area.

3.
