PL BLATT PANTY Filed April 29, 1957 1N VEN TOR.
BY Baum 62417 Arromvs Y6 United States Patent PANTY Paula Blatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application April 29, 1957, Serial No. 655,711
3 Claims. 01. 2-224 This invention relates to the general class of womens I wearing apparel and, more specifically, is for an improved Accordingly the object of my present invention is to' devise a panty that may be worn under the girdle in such manner as to permit adjustment of the same for personal use without disturbing the position of the girdle.
Another object is to devise such a panty that possesses the above-named advantage and that has built into it also an abdomen-supporting means for added comfort especially in cases of pregnancy.
Another object is to devise such a pull-down seat arrangement in combination with snugly fitting leg portions for convenient fitting beneath the girdle and without any seams between the legs of the wearer so as to thereby preclude any chafing of the crotch portions of the legs of the wearer body.
Other objects will appear from the following description and claims when considered together with the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of my present garment in position upon the body of the wearer;
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof;
Fig. 3 illustrates the blanks from which the legs portions are formed, these two blanks being sewed together;
Fig. 4 illustrates the blank of the crotch portion.
In the accompanying drawing, the panty may be made from only three blanks of fabric that has long stretch in all directions, as for instance a material that is known in the trade as Halenca. Two of these blanks 1 and 2 are of duplicate form and maybe identified as the main leg-forming portions of the panty while the other blank 3 may be recognized as the crotch portion. The two leg portions 1 and 2 are sewed together along the front at the seam 4 and are sewed to the crotch portion at the rear seams 5 and 6 and at the front seams 7 and 8. It will be observed that none of these seams is located between the legs of the wearer When the panty is in position of use upon her body, with the result that there is no chafing of her legs by any such seams; and the leg portions of this panty extend sufficiently far down the thighs of the wearers body to still further ensure against any such chafing. By making the entire garment, that is the panty, of Halenca or other such elastic material with universal stretch, there will be obtained a snug fit of the same throughout in a most comfortable and effective manner; and all sizes of the wearers bodies may be served by the same size of panty by virtue of such long universal stretch.
This panty may be made of suflicient height to engage about the hips and buttock of the wearers body so as to cover and engage the same in an eiiective manner for all practical purposes, the rear part of the panty extending sufficiently above the buttock to have effective resilient engagement thereabove when in fully raised or upper position. The front of the panty may have engagement beneath the wearers abdomen so as to provide uplifting support therefor, which is especially advantageous in cases of pregnancy. The front upper edge of this panty may be provided with a longitudinally elastic strip 9 so as to increase the firmness and positiveness'of such engagement and also to afford a better finish for the edge of the garment. The strip 9 may terminate at points corresponding approximately to the groins of the wearers body. The remaining top edge of the panty may have applied thereto the longitudinally elastic strip 10 which will provide more positive engagement about the rear and side parts of the wearers body and which may also be extended rearwardly and upwardly in the form of a loop 11 that is adapted for firm resilient supporting engagement above the hips and about the small of the back of the wearers body. The upper rear edge of the panty is free from the loop 11 between the points corresponding to the wearers groins so as to permit the seat portion of the panty to be lowered for personal use and then returned to upper position without disturbing the engagement of the loop portion 11 about the body of the wearer. That is, the seat portion of the panty maybe considered as being capable of hinge-like adjustment about the points corresponding approximately to the groins of the wearers body. Likewise, the engagement of the front part of the panty beneath the abdomen will remain undisturbed during such adjustment of the rear part of the panty. The band 11 is capable of yielding, if necessary, in the lowering of the panty seat but without dislodging the band 11 from its normal position. The upward return of the panty seat to its raised position will be permitted and expedited by the snugly-fitting elastic nature of the same including the elastic strip 10 and also by the fact that the seat portion is virtually hinged to the remaining portion of the panty. Such return up: ward movement of the panty seat portion is practically automatic by virtue of the elastic panty and its binding 10 which will hug the wearers body and will tend to find its raised position upon being released from its temporary lowered adjustment and tucked up under the lower edge of the girdle.
Each of the longitudinally elastic bands 12 and 13 about the bottoms of the snugly fitting legs of the panty may have plush upon the inside thereof so as to prevent the same from creeping up along the legs of the wearer, this material being known in the trade as plush elastic.
The blanks 1, 2 and 3 are here illustrated in their forms prior to being made up into the panty; one of the longer edges of the blank 3 being sewed to the edges of the angle at the lower side of two blanks shown in Fig. 3 of the present drawing. By adopting blanks of the particular form herein indicated, it has been found that there is realized a substantial saving in material. As herein indicated, blank 3 may be of regular oblong form, while the blanks 1 and 2 are of duplicate form.
Thus the above objects have been accomplished in a simple and effective manner that will permit convenient adjustment for personal use and that is calculated to add to the appearance of a womans outer garments when worn over a girdle and panty. Other practical advantages of this invention will no doubt readily suggest themselves 5 to those who are familiar with the art to which it reates- I t is to be understood that the present form of disclosure is merely for the sake of illustration and that there might be devised various modifications thereof W hout d pa t n om h spir of my in e t o herein set forth and claimed.
ha I claim s;
A arm n Compr n a pa y having a b d elastic material adapted to fit entirely and snugly about and above the buttock of the wearers body and having individual full leg portions adapted to fit completely and snugly about, the upper parts of her thighs, and a band COHI1Ctd to the opposite front top parts of the panty and being adapted to fit snugly aboutthe rear waist region of the wearers body for supporting engagement therewith, the upper rear part of the panty being free from said band between the points of attachment of said band thereto, whereby the rear. part of the panty may be lowered and raised, in turn, for personal use while said band may remain in position about the waist of the e rer o y- 2. The same, structure as recited in claim 1 hereof and in which the top part of the panty has a longitudinally elastic substantially continuous band thereabout including a portion at the front thereof adapted for supporting engagement beneath the abdomen of the wearer.
4 .A ga e c p ising a p y consis ing o two duplicate leg blanks of elastic material having narrow ends secured to ether at a p i corresponding to the front of the panty and having wider end portions, a crotch blank portion secured to said duplicate blanks at the front of the panty and between the wider end portions of said duplicate blanks at a point corresponding to the rear of the panty, the wider portions of said duplicate blanks being adapted to extend entirely about upper parts of the wearers thighs and above her buttock, and a band connected to the opposite front top parts of the panty and being adapted to fit snugly about the rear waist region of the wearers body for supporting engagement therewith, the upper rear part of the panty being free from said hand between the points of attachment of said band thereto, whereby the rear part of the panty may be lowered and raised, in turn, for personal use while said band may remain in position about the waist of the wearers body.
