Application fled lay a, 1931'. Serial 110,136,114. v i Y My invention relates to improvements in childrens garments and more particularly to that t pe of garment used as an undergarment or youn children.

An object o my invention is to provide a one-piece garment which will take the place of the separate underwaist and bloomers now in use. i

A further object of my invention is to eliminate the necessity for the large number of buttons ordinarily employed to attach the waist and bloomers together, and thus to save a great deal of the time and trouble or annoyanceusually involved in the dressing of a child.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will appear in the following specifipations, with reference to the accompanying drawin and the appended claims.

Broadly, my invention comprises a one piece, step-in garment consisting of a waist portion, a bloomer portion permanently secured to the waist (portion, said bloomer portion being forme with a drop back, and means for opening and closin quickly and easily the drop back without t e use of buttons, whereby, when the back is closed, the garment is drawn inwardly at the waist line, thus supporting the bloomer portion of the garment fromthe hips.

A preferred form of my invention is illustrate in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a rear elevational view of the arment, showing one side of the drop bac in closed position and the opposite side in opened position, and

Fig. 2 is a sectional, plan view on the line 22 of Fig. 1, showing how the waist portion is carried down to revent contact of the closure device with t e body, and also preventing the slide fastener closure device rom becoming inoperative with cloth getting into this closure device.

Referrin now to the drawings in detail, in which like numerals refer to'like parts throughout:

, In operation," when it is desired to ut on. the garment, the drop back is quick y-and easilyopened by a downward pull. of the keys-20', which frees the .waist line at the stitches 5 sov that. the child may step into u, the bloomer portion 4; at the waist line and then draw the garment up overtheshoulders, then :the slide fasteners 19 are closed by an upward movement of the keys 20. As the slide fasteners 19 are closed, the waist is si- 1 v multaneously drawn inwardly as the slide means are arranged at an angle to the vertical as shown, and is supported lightly but securely above the hips. To remove the garment, the slide fasteners 19 are opened, I a shrug releases the shoulders straps 2, and the garment slips to the floor, and the child steps out.

It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the construction of a one-piece gar- 8i ment for children onl as it is equally adaptable to misses and ladies, as well as for children.

An im ortant feature of my invention is that it e ectually dispenses with the use of 00 all buttons and elastics of any kind, which is an important feature.

An important feature of my invention is that the length of the band 4' of the bloomer portion 4 is less than the distance from the 03 point 18 at the upper ends of the interlockmg halves 18 of the slide fasteners, or normal width of the garment. The interlocking halves 17 on the b oomer drop part are therefore arranged at an angle to the opposite side IN open; as indicated at 12. Thesides ea edges of the leg ortions, by reason of the shorter length the bloomer waist band 4 of the bloomer being less than the normal width of the garment. Therefore, when the slide fasteners are operated or closed, by the keys, or finger pieces 20, are moved upward thegarment is simultaneously drawn inward or contracted about the waist line of the person and permanently held in its place, without buttons or other securing means of any kind.

What I claim is:

1. A one-piece step-in garment comprising I a waist portion and a bloomer portion secured to the'front of the waist portion, a slide fastener secured. to one side of the back of the bloomer portion, a second slide fastener secured to the other side of the back of the bloomer'portion, a drop back formed in said bloomer portion having a waist band of a len h less t an the distance between the two sli e fasteners and means for fastening the drop back portions to the waist portion.

2. A one-piece garment comprising a waist portion and a bloomer ortion secured to the front of the waist port1on,a pair of seams on each side of the garment, a slide fastener secured to one of the side seams, a second slide fastener secured to the other of said side seams, a drop back formed in said bloomor portion having 21. waist band of a length less than the distance between the two slide fasteners and cooperating slide fasteners se-- cured to said drop back and at an angle to said first-mentioned slide fasteners and adapted to engage therewith for retaining the drop back in lace.
