UNDERGARMEN'I'.
'Application filed March 24, 1922. Serial No. 546,384.-
I the two pieces of which, may be worn either together or separately.
A further object is to provide a union suit of this character, the two pieces of which are formed of material of different weight. In fact the invention contemplates broadly the idea of an undergarment formed of different fabrics of varying weights and texturesl Other objects are to provide a union suit or undergarment which will be simple and practical in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, serviceable in use, and capable of economical manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a rear perspective view illustrating my improved garment as worn;
Figure 2 is a similar view in front perspective;
Figure 3 is a view in transverse section on the line 33 of Figure 2; I
Figure 4c is a perspective view of the shirt portion of the garment; and
Figure 5 is a similar view of the drawers portion thereof.
Refering in detail to the drawings, my improved undergarment preferably comprises a shirt 1 and a pair of drawers 2, the shirt being formed of relatively light woven material and the drawers being formed of relatively heavy knitted material. The shirt portion of the garment is preferably sleeveless, being provided with arm holes 3 and with a central longitudinal opening down the front adapted to be closed 'by buttons 1. The shirt is formed with relatively short tails 5.
6, 6 represent a pair of straps attached at one .end to the Waistband portion of the shirt just above the rear tail. The free ends of the straps are provided with button holes Tadapted to engage with buttons-'8 on the shirt adjacent the front opening thereof.
The drawers 2 are provided with the usual leg portions 9 and the front opening 10, extending from the crotch to the waistband 11 is normally closed by buttons 12. The waistband 11 of the drawers is provided at each side with a pair of slots 13,
through which the straps 6 of the shirt are adapted to be laced. The drawers are likewise provided at the rear with a sanitary drop flap 14 concealing an opening 15 at the rear of the drawers and adapted to be but- I toned to the waist band of the drawers, as indicated at 16.
In donning the union suit, the shirt is first put on and buttoned down the front. The drawers are next assumed, the tails of-the shirt extending inside of the drawers and the straps 6 being laced through the slots 13 and buttoned to the buttons 8 on the inside of the drawers. By virtue of the straps a very comfortable and readily yieldable connection is had between the shirt and drawers and there 1s no blndlng when the wearer assumes a stooplng or bending pos- ,ture. Ready access may be had to the sanitary drop flap which buttons on the outside of the waistband to the drawers.
In removing the garment it is merely necessary to unbutton the buttons 4: and 12 at the front of the shirt and drawers and the garment may be slipped off as a one piece device. It is also to be noted that either the shirt or the drawers arecapable of being worm independently of the other.
Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be obvious that numerous slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider. myself at liberty to I make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A union garment comprising a shirt and drawers, a pair of straps, each strap I securedat one end within the shirt at each shirt, the drawers having slots in their Waistband to the front and rear of the hip points, said straps adapted to be interlaced through said slots and over the hips to connect the shirt and drawers, fastening means at the free ends of the straps, and cooperating fastening means on the front of the shirt at each side of the front opening for securing said straps and shirt together.
2. A union garment comprising a shirt and drawers, a pair of straps, each strap secured at one end Within the shirt at each side of the median line of the" hack of the shirt, the drawers having slots in their Waistband to the front and rear of the hip points, said straps adapted to be interlaced through said slots and over the hips to connect the shirt and drawers, fastening means at the free ends of the straps, and cooperating fastening means on the front of the shirt at each side of the front opening thereof for securing said straps and shirt together, said drawers including a rear drop flap, and means for securingthefree edge of the drop to the aistband of the drawers adjacent the rear slots in the Waistba nd.
JOHN HOFFEGKER MOFFAT.
