This invention relates to a trouser construction and more particularly to the trouser construction of a pajama.
It is an object of my invention to provide trousers for pajamas which are comfortable in construction and economical in material and in cost of manufacture. My invention concerns itself with the problem experienced in wearing bed clothes, such as pajama trousers, and the tendency of this article of apparel, when worn, to hike up or creep into the the crotch, with result ing discomfort.
Known to me is the tendency in producing pajama trousers making attempts to overcome the foregoing shortcomings by providing unusual fullness tending to minimize the discomfort of upward creeping and binding. Such construction is expensive, both from the standpoint of labor and the material involved in its production.
The customary practice of contouring pajama trousers to form a center seam line is attributed largely to the necessity for providing a fly in men's garments. Accordingly, the patterns from which the fabric is out, have followed a customary practice of extending the seam line centrally from the fly without in any way meeting the above problem with regard to discomfort in wearing the trousers.
I have found, and it is an object of my invention to provide, a pajama trouser in which the panels for making the trouser are cut to form a center seam along the garment, to shape the garment to form by a seam which extends into the crotch for joining the left and right panels, and to provide in the crotch seam which connects the front and back assembly, a slit in the nature of a placket whose opening runs sidewise across the crotch, and including separable fasteners for optionally maintaining said slit or placket closed or open, whereby in the open position the discomfort of creeping or hiking into the crotch is avoided.
Still more particularly it is an object of my invention to provide pajama trousers, particularly for men, in which considerable economies are effected, eliminating the necessity for the provision of the usual fly by providing the pajamas with the usual waistline distensibility, such as by a drawstring or elastic waistline, and including in the crotch a slit or placket running sidewise for a short length, to provide fabric which may hang loosely rearwardly and forwardly Without binding in the crotch, and optionally to be connected by separable fasteners, such as buttons, glove fasteners, zippers.
To attain these objects and such further objects as may appear herein or be hereinafter pointed out, I make reference to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view of pajama trousers in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view with the crotch placket in the open position;
Figure 4 is a section taken on the line L 3 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary View similar to Figure 2 with another embodiment of fastening means comprising a zipper.
Summarizing my invention, I provide a pajama trouser in which the sidewardly directed and extended seam in the crotch defining portion is formed for a short distance with a slit or placket joined by separable fasteners, to thereby when not connected obtusely extend or loosely hang the fabric to the crotch of the wearer and to eliminate the discomforting feel when the trousers ride or hike upwardly into the crotch.
Making reference to the drawing, in accordance with my invention I provide a pajama trouser I0 having a left panel II and right panel I2 which are closed along the sides I3 and I4 from the waistline I5 to the end thereof near the ankle. The side portions I3 and I4 may be seamed where both of the panels are made of front segments and rear segments joined to each other by a seam.
In accordance with my invention, the waistband I5 is desirably made with a waistband hem within which, at least for a portion thereof, an elastic ribbon or webbing is sewn to draw waistband snugly about the wearer. The left panel II is joined to the right panel 52 along the front by a central seam I6 and to the rear by a seam III. The edge I8 of the front segment is joined to the edge I9 of the rear segment to provide a vertical seam along the leg for a por tion of the distance, the patterns being out along the crotch line 20 and 2| to conform the fabric to the body and extend the edges beneath crotch. In accordance with my invention the seam lines 22 running sidewise of the garment as contrasted with the transverse scams [6 and I1 are formed with a placket or slit from con nected portions 23 and 24 on the left and right legs, respectively, when viewed from the front in Figures 1 and 3, to thereby obtusely extend or loosely hang the fabric to the crotch instead of the form-fitting curvature which extends into the crotch at an acute angle or sharp curve.
The front edge 25 is joined to the rear edge 26 by separable fasteners 2! and 28 on the edges 25 and 26, respectively. I illustrate male and female glove fasteners or grippers, it being understood that buttons may be used to join the edges 25 and 26.
With the construction described, it will be apparent that the upwardly directed slit or placket may be closed, to have all the appearance of a completely closed pajama trouser. By opening the fasteners 21 and 2 8, the edges 20 and 2| are released from their position following the contour of the crotch transversely, to form dependent flaps 29 and 30 spaced from the wearers body and displaced materially from the normal eontour of the body, eliminating tendencies of the garment to ride when worn.
In Figure 5, I have shown a fragment of the crotch construction with the edges joined by separable fasteners comprising zippers, metal of rust resistant character or nonmetallic elements may be used.
It will be observed that by the construction which I have described, unusual fullness, especially in the seat, need not be provided to secure a comfortable fit. Likewise, the necessity for supplying a fly in mens pajama trousers between the crotch and the waistline is avoided, further to provide comfort, utility and economy.
Having thus described my invention and illus trated its use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A pajama trouser having a waistline portion, a lower torso covering portion extending downwardly therefrom, a pair of leg covering portions depending from said torso covering portion, and a crotch area at the union of said two leg and torso covering portions, the trouser being formed of a left side panel and a right side panel, said panels being joined together at the front and back along their complementary edges beginning at the waistline portion and extending downwardly along the center of the garment to within a short distance of the crotch area, said panels being joined to the extent afore-described primarily by stitching, the portions of the edges of each of said panels in-said crotch area being formed to outline a placket, and the edges of each placket having complementary separable fastener elements, whereby uniting said fasteners elements of each placket provides a substantially closed crotch area and separating said fastener elements of each placket releases the edges of said plackets to hang loosely leaving an open crotch area with said opening extending from one leg covering portion to the other.
