Description

G. SC-HOLLIAN. A Overalls.
No. 210,713, Patented Dec. 10, 1878.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GOTTLIEB SGHOLLIAN, OF DUBUQUE, IOWVA.
IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,7 [3, dated December 10, 1878; application filed June 12, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GOTTLIEB SOHOLLIAN, of Dubuque, in the county of Dubuque and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Overalls and Pants; and I do hereby declare that'the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object I have in view is an improved construction of the rise and the back-straps to overalls and pants, whereby a saving of the cloth is made, the straps are much stronger and less liable to rip in use, and draw more evenly around the waist of the garment; and my invention consists in making the rise be low the waistband of overalls and pants of a central piece or pieces and of two outside pieces, which at the same time form the backstraps.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the body of the overalls or pants, and Fig- 2 a back view of the same.
The body of the overalls or pants is preferably made in two parts, A A, united by a central seam at the back and at the crotch, and by the usual flaps in front. The legs of the garment are a continuation of the parts A A", each being out from a single piece, with the seam on the inside. This construction I prefer for overalls.
. The rise of the overalls or pants is formed of two central pieces, B B, one on each side of the central seam, and outside of them are two other pieces, (J (3, all joined together and to the parts A A on their lower edge and the waistband D at their top edge. The pieces G C are extended beyond the line of juncture with the pieces B B, the loose ends being out to form the back'straps.
The central part of the rise-the parts B B-can be made in one piece; but the construction shown is preferable for cheapness of manufacture.
By this manner of forming the rise and backstraps a saving of cloth is made, since the back and front of the overalls or pants can be made of the same length, and instead of tale ing the whole length of the garment from the cloth, the waste pieces can be used to make the parts B B and G (3.
The pieces which form the straps being a part of the overalls or pants, they cannot be ripped from place as the ordinary straps; and, in addition, these pieces being quite widethree inches or over at the widest partthe straps will draw more equally, and upon a much greater vertical width, making the overalls fit better and more comfortably around the waist and hips.
What I claim as my invention is-- In overalls or pantaloons, the riser made of a central piece or pieces, B B, and side pieces, 0 O, secured together and to the waistband D and seat portions A A, the said side pieces being continued to form the back-straps, substantially as described and shown.
This specification signed and witnessed this 1st day of June, 1878.
GOTTLIEB SOHOLLIAN.
