IMPROVEMENT IN UNDERGARMENTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,358, dated February 13, 1877; application filed August 3, 1876.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, COELIA C. CURTIS, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improved Undergarment for Female Wear; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

Myinvention relates to the mode of cutting and forming that class of undergarments for female wear in which the waist and drawers form a single garment; and it consists, first, in forming the entire garment, with the exception of the sleeves and back of the waist, in two pieces or parts, each of which pieces or parts forms one leg and one side of the waistfront, thus economizing in material and labor. The back of the waist I cut in what is known as a sacque style, so that it will fit the person more comfortably and snugly.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows the front, and Fig. 2 shows the back of the garment. Fig. 3 shows the patterns.

In constructing my improved combination undersuit I cut out one leg A of the drawers, onehalf of button-flap C, and one-half, B, of the front of the waist in-a single piece of material, with two dart-seams at the bust, as represented, so that when the legs and seam of button-flap are sewed up, and the two halves of the waist are buttoned up the front, the

principal part of the work is finished. The

back of the waist I make of two pieces, D E, which are cut in sacque form, as represented, so that the waist will conform to the general shape of the body of the wearer.

If desired, a loose flap can be formed by an extension of the back of the waist, according to the style of suit desired.

1 thus provide a comfortable and convenient undergarment for female wear, which is cut in the most economical style, and without waste of material, while it will fit easily upon the person.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isa l. A combination suit, consisting of waist and drawers, for female wear, out with onehalf of the front of the waist, one leg, and onehalf of flap in one single piece, substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. A combined waist and drawers for female underwear having the waist cut in closefitting sacque form, with horizontal darts and long back, substantially as and for the purposes described.
