Patented April 30,
Application filed August 2, 1906. Serial No. 328,935.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, (lyrics iii. WALKER, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Butier, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri, have invented new end useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to under garments of that class termed union suits and aims to provide a cloth union suit in a manner as hereinafter more specifically described enioodying all the advantages and freedom of e knit union suit, furthermore being decidedly more cooler when worn than a knit garment as well as not sticking to the body when the body is wet with perspiration.
The invention further aims to provide a cloth union suit having an elastic Waist band of knit fabric constituting the elastic WitlSt portion, thereby preventing any inconvenience to the wearer when using the suit as the wearer will have the utmost freedom, and furthermore. to provide the suit at the shoulder portion thereof with an elastic insert of knit fabric so that the shoulder portion of the garment will not bind the wearer when the suit is worn.
The invention further aims to provide a union suit which shall be simple in its arrangement, strong, durable, and comparetively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel coinhinetion and arrangement of ports constituting the suit as hereinafter more specifically descrihml and illustrated iii-the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment ol the invention, but it is to he understood that changes, variations and modifications can he resorted to which comeoortion 1, ed shirt. portion i erni pits nice with the in encioth drawers pcrtou i being armless and provided with rtion 1,13
the opening extending upwardly from the crotch 4. The drawers portion 2 is also open at the rear ,the opening extending from the crotch e to 21 point in close proximity to the waist, and the drawers portion 2 is provided at the rear with a flap 5 for orerlsppmg the rear 0 Jening of the drawers portion 2. The legs 0 the drawers portion 2 are indicated by the reference character 6, and as shown are half or knee length, hutthe legs 6 may he anhie length if desired. Aithough the shirt portion 1 is shorm armless, yet firms of half .or full length may be secured to the shirt portion 1.
m1 7 the shirt portion 1 is connected LO t e drawers portion 2 by means of a piniof reinforcing strips 7 8 which extend from the crotch 4 oi the drawers portion 2 to the neck opening of the slnrt portion. The reunion in strips 7 8 aresecured, respectively, to one si e of the front opening of the shirt end drawers port-ion of the garment. interposed between and secured respectively to the lower end of the shirt portion 1 and the upper end of the drmvers portion 2 by suitable-stitching is an elastic waist band .9 formed of knit inhric and which extends from the inner side of the reinforcing strip 7 to the innerside of the reinforcing strip 8. The hand 9 is of greater width at the back than st the front and allows for perfect freedom of the wearer st the waist and prevents the garment sticl to the body when the body is Wet with perspire tion'. The wsist bond 9 also constitutes an elastic coupling hiQitIlS between the shirt portion 1 and drawers portion 2. The shoulders of the shirt portion lore escl'itornied with en elastic insert 10 of knit fabric which extends from the neck opening to the opening for the arm and gradually increases in width in wnrdly, this elastic insert e'fiords perfect freedom to the wearer and st the same time also prevents the shoulders of the shirt por tion 1 of sticking when the wearer is perspiring. 1 i i From the i'orc oing description, when in connection with the accompanying drawings,
it will be evident that e union suit is set up embodying the e .lvsntege of preventing the gsrnient "from sticking and oi; the some time siiording perfect freedom the wearer st the shoulders end weist, end inrtherniore, the elastic heed will. ellorir Ferment of this charec lit the u people or g ven cnest n. egein owing to the connecting o and.
RKS OI together at the crotch it enables the wearer to get into the garment without putting each leg on like a stocking which hasto be done in a knit union -suit.
Having thus fully described my invention what 'I claim as new and desire to secure by- Letters-Patent, is
A union garment comprising a shirt portion open at its front, a drawers portion open at its front andrear and having as an integral part thereof a flap for overlapping the opening at the rear, a pair of reinforcing strips for the sides of the front opening of the gar ment and which extend fronrthc crotch of the drawers portion to the neck opening in the shirt portion, an elastic waist band interposed between the shirt and drawer portion and having its upper edge secured to the lower edge of the shirt portion and its lower edge ssasoe tion thereby coupling said portions together,
said band having one end secured to one of the reinforcing strips and its other end to the other of said strips, said band being of greater Widtll at the back of the garment than at the front, and .an elastic insert for each of the shoulders of the shirt portion, said insert extending from the neck opening to the opening of the arm and gradually-increasing in width tor ard the neck opening.
In testimony whereofI have hereunto set my hand n presence of two subscribing witnesses.
