Description
(No Model.) 7 w D. W. J; HUTTON.
BATHING GARMENT. V No.-259,020. Patented June 6, 1882.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID W. J. HUTTON, OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
BATHlNG-GARMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,020, dated June 6, 1882.
Application filed April 27, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID W. J. HUTTON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Camden, State of New J er: sey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bathing-Garments, which improvement is fully set forth in thefollowing specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of a garment embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Bathing-garments as heretofore made are uncomfortable and fit badly, especially over the shoulders, arms, and body, and when the garments are wet the wearers experience much difficulty in raising their arms, the effort also occasioning strain on the garment, and often resulting in tearing the fabric or opening of the seams.
a of union of the front of the yoke with the back yoke or back of the garment is beyond the top line of the shoulders of the wearer, so that there is no seam at said top line. It will be seen that the fullness of the body is taken up by folding the material on itself along the stitch-lines b b, as shown at c c, the folds thus being integral with the fabric of the body, and that the fabric is smooth and unbroken over the shoulders and breast, whereby there is a neat and perfect fit of the garment over the shoulders, arms, and body without gathering at the shoulder, admitting freedom of motion of the arms-a decided advantage when the garment is wet-and overcomingthe liability of tearing the fabric or the seams, and irritation and chafing of the neck, shoulders, arm-pits, and breast of the wearer are avoided. The yoke may be of single or double thickness, as desired, and it will be noticed that there is no seam presented at the top line of the shoulder of the wearer, where the entire weight of the garment is received.
Having thus described my'invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The bodyAl and legs B,continuous thereof, in combination with the yoke 0, extending from the line b in front over the shoulders to the line b at theback, forming an improvement in bathing-garments, as set forth.
2. The bathing-garment consisting of the body A and legs B, continuous thereof, havingthe yoke O, which extends from the line I) over and beyond the top of the shoulders, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
