UNITED STATES PATENT Erica.
LEX I GOLDSMITH, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
DRAWERS AND OV'ERALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 331,959, dated December 8, J 885,
Application filed August 7, 1885. Serial No. 173,895. (No modeLl To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI GOLDSMITH. asubsubject of the Emperor of Russia, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers and Overalls, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in drawers and overalls, in which the leg portions are cut in one piece, as hereinafter set forth, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front view, with one side of the upper portion unsewed and turned open, showing the same to be seamless at the side; Fig.2, a side view showing a fullness in the seat; Fig. 3, a complete front view; Fig. 4, a back View; and Fig. 5, adetail view showing how the fullness is acquired in the seat, and that the body part is in one piece.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The letter A designates the lower or leg portions of the drawers, consisting of a single piece of fabric, which avoids seams on the inside of the legs and in the crotch. To the part A, I arrange the upper or body part, B, which also consists of a single piece, in such a manner that any desired fullness in the seat may be acquired, and the same being in one piece the vertical side seams are avoided on the hips. The parts A are cut in the usual manner, except the edge that forms the joining-seam a, which is cut higher in the back at 11 than in the front at c, by which, in conjunction with the top part, B, cut sufficiently full at (I, so that it overlaps the top edge, I), (see Fig. 5,) previous to being united, it forms a fullness in the seat when the two edges b and d are sewed together, the desired fullness being determined by increasing or decreasing the amount of material at d and b.
As before stated, the body part B consists of a single piece, which is provided with the usual top band, e, with its lower edge, f, cut to correspond with the curvature of the top edge, 9, of the lower part, A, infront and at the sides, but with the back portion full, or in excess thereof, whereby a fullness is there acquired, as above stated, and a neat and accurate fit secured at the front and sides when the edges are united, which results in a continuous seam around the hips; but owing to the said fullness the same is not binding or uncomfortable to the wearer. Where the ends of the body-piece are united, a short vertical seam, h, is formed, which is neatly sewed and stayed by the overlapping part 0, which extends over the seam h, and which extends upward entirely across the body piece B, to which it is stitched, thereby preventing the seam h from ripping, and at the same time forming a neat and uniform front. The back of the garment is provided with lacings, by which the size of the band may be varied, and with the usual button and tie-strings.
By the arrangements herein set forth vertical side seams are dispensed with over the hips, and having the back portions full results in producing a comfortable garment with few seams, and a fullness in the seat to any desired extent, which is very desirable, especially in overalls, owing to stooping, &c.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and wish to secure by United States Letters Patent, is
In drawers and overalls in which the body partis attached to the lower part by means of a seam extending around the hips, the lower part, A, in combination with the body part B, which is cut full in the back, in relation to the upper edge, I), of the lower part, A, whereby any desired fullness may be acquired. In testimony whereof I affix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
LEVI GOLDSMITH. Witnesses:
