(Cl. 2-227) This invention relates to garments of the pants type, such as slacks, Capri pants, Jamaica and Bermuda shorts, pajamas, pettipants, tights, jumpsuits, etc., and has its general object to provide, in a garment of this type, a construction which prevents the sagging of the rear areas of the thigh portions of the garment just below the hip level. This is a common occurrence in Womens slacks and similar garments of the type mentioned, and is quite objectionable to the wearers.

The present invention solves that problem and provides a non-sagging garment which is comfortable in the wearing thereof and pleasing to the eye. This is the principal object of this invention.

More specifically, the invention aims to provide a nonsagging pants type garment in which a novel configuration and arrangement of pattern-sections and joining seams provides support in the upper rear areas of the thigh portions of the garment, such as to prevent sagging.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent in the ensuing specification and appended drawing in which:

FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a garment embodying my invention;

FIG. 2 is a rear elevational view of the same;

FIG. 3 is a side elevational view of the same;

FIG. 4 is an inverted plan view looking upwardly from the lower ends of the leg elements;

FIG. 5 is a pattern view of a side half of the garment in a partially fabricated stage, with the leg part shown fragmentarily; and

FIG. 6 is a detailed sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of FIG. 5.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, and in particular to FIGS. 1-3, I have shown therein, as an example of one form in which the invention may be embodied, a pants type ladies garment having leg parts of full or ankle length, such as a pair of slacks. The upper portion of the garment is composed of four sections, namely a pair of abdomen sections 10, 11 and a pair of seat sections 12, 13, the sections of each pair being of symmetrical right and left pattern. The pattern form of the parts 11 and 13 is disclosed in FIG. 5, the parts 10 and 12 being identical to parts 11 and 13, in reverse. The abdomen sections 10', 11 are joined to their respective seat sections 12, 13 by vertical side seams 14, one of which is seen in FIG. 3. The two seat sections 12, 13 are joined to one another by a vertical rear seam 15 (FIG. 2). The two abdomen sections are relea-sably joina'ble to one another in the front of the garment by a vertically extending zipper fastener 16 or equivalent releasable fastener means, providing an openable front seam. Alternatively, the zipper fastener can be inccsporated in the back seam 15 or in either of the side seam-s 14. The seam 15 continues through the crotch of the garment to the lower end of the fastener 16, approximately as indicated in FIG. 1.

The garment further includes a pair of leg parts 18, each formed from a single pattern part 181 the upper portion of which is shown in FIG. 5. In accordance with conventional pants construction, each pattern part 181 has its lateral margins joined to one another along a seam 19, shown in FIG. 4.

The invention is particularly characterized by the configuration of transverse edges of leg parts 18 and abdomen and hip parts 1013 where they are joined to one another along a transverse seam indicated generally at 22. The seam 22 begins at laterally spaced adjacent low points 23 where the corners of the seat sections 12, 13 substantially meet the Vertical inward seams 19 of leg parts 18, extends outwardly around the sides. of the garment at a very low angle of inclination at 24, and curves upwardly along a steeper line of inclination at 25 until it meets the side seams 14, then continues along a reverse curve with a gradually decreasing inclination, at 26, to approximately the centers of the abdomen sections 10, 11, and thence is curved downwardly at 27 and extends therefrom downwardly along a substantially straight downward inclination at 28, to the crotch. As a result, the upper forward areas of the leg elements 18 are longer than and extend considerably above the upper rearward areas of the leg elements 18. Closer and more direct support is therefore provided for the upper rear areas of leg elements 18 and I find that by this means sagging is eliminated. Furthermore, the seam 22, being reinforced by stitching and doubling back of the margins of the pattern parts, provides lines of tension support extending downwardly and rearwardly from the high points thereof to the low points 23 at the rear crotch area, which appears to assist in preventing sagging.

The side seams 14 assist in such support by being connected at their lower ends to the transverse seam 22 where the upward inclination of the seam portion 25 commences to curve back toward the horizontal.

While the drawings disclose the seam 22 as a plain exposed seam and in many instances the garment of the invention will embody such a plain seam, the invention also contemplates, for some applications, covering the seam with tape, decorative or otherwise, or partially concealing the seam with sequins or other decorative attachment means.

The invention contemplates the possibility of adding a blouse connected to the pants garments along the waistline thereof and having a zippered or button-fastener front opening.

I claim:

- 1. A pants type garment comprising in combination: an upper garment portion comprising a pair of abdomen sections and a pair of seat sections; vertical upper side seams joining the lateral extremity of each abdomen section to the corresponding extremity of its seat section; a pair of leg elements; and transverse seams joining the upper margins of said leg elements to the lower margins of said abdomen and seat sections along a transverse seam beginning at a low point at the rear of a crotch area, thence extending upwardly around the sides of the garment to high points located a substantial distance in wardly from said vertical side seams and in the front of the garment, thence extending downwardly to a low point at the front of the crotch area, the lower ends of said upper side seams being joined to said transverse seams; each of said transverse seams being curved upwardly and laterally with increasing inclination to the point of joinder with said upper side seams and thence being curved upwardly and laterally with a reverse curvature and decreasing inclination to said high points; and said transverse seams being inclined upwardly with a low inclination from the rear crotch area to approximately the mid points between said crotch area and said vertical side seams.

2. A garment as defined in claim 1, wherein said transverse seams are inclined steeply downwardly from said high points to the front crotch a rea.

Claims

1. A PANTS TYPE GARMENT COMPRISING IN COMBINATION: AN UPPER GARMENT PORTION COMPRISING A PAIR OF ABDOMEN SECTIONS AND A PAIR OF SEAT SECTIONS; VERTICAL UPPER SIDE SEAMS JOINING THE LATERAL EXTREMITY OF EACH ABDOMEN SECTION TO THE CORRESPONDING EXTREMITY OF ITS SEAT SECTION; A PAIR OF LEG ELEMENTS; AND TRANSVERSE SEAMS JOINING THE UPPER MARGINS OF SAID LEG ELEMENTS TO THE LOWER MARGINS OF SAID ABDOMEN AND SEAT SECTIONS ALONG A TRANSVERSE SEAM BEGINNING AT A LOW POINT AT THE REAR OF A CROTCH AREA, THENCE EXTENDING UPWARDLY AROUND THE SIDES OF THE GARMENT TO HIGH POINTS LOCATED A SUBSTANTIAL DISTANCE INWARDLY FROM SAID VERTICAL SIDE SEAMS AND IN THE FRONT OF THE GARMENT, THENCE EXTENDING DOWNWARDLY TO A LOW POINT AT THE FRONT OF THE CROTCH AREA, THE LOWER ENDS OF SAID UPPER SIDE SEAMS BEING JOINED TO SAID TRANSVERSE SEAMS; EACH OF SAID TRANSVERSE SEAMS BEING CURVED UPWARDLY AND LATERALLY WITH INCREASING INCLINATION TO THE POINT OF JOINDER
