Application JanuaryB, 196,Se1iialiNo.i639}'t12 o1.-2 2ss 2 Claims.
My invention relates to an under-garment, more particularly for use \withdancers costumes or the like: and the I obj ects-of my invention are ,Firsttoprovide an under-garment of this class Which is very neatand '.c,omfortab1e to wear promoting ease of movement pandtgraceful fitting of the ganment. adj acent-thereto;
Second, to provide ;a garment -of this class which is so constructed that the front :thereof is free from-wrinkles normally-caused by the-curvature of the weareris abdomen;
,EIIhird, to;providefa garment of this class having a :low :front .edge particularly comfortable when wornsbypregnantwomen;
, Fourthpztoz provide a garment, of 1thisclass=which isvery comfortable inwarm weather;
Fifth toprovide a garment of this class constructed of very -simple patterns';
vSixth, ;to;provide-a garment of this class :which is-;particu1ar1y:-adapted Y to fit the :Wearer :to :a wary exacting degree; .and
Seventh, to provide -;a :garment ;of this class which ;is --very simple and economical of .construction, efiicient in use and which will not steadily deteriorateprgetout of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my inventionconsists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions .as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in theappended claims, -reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters-of reference thereon forming :a part of this application in which:
Figure .1 is a front elevational view of my under garment shown positioned on the :wearer thereof; Fig. 2 is a rear elevational viewtofmy under-garment shown positioned on the wearer thereof; 3 is a front elevational viewlof the blank side pieces used in the construction of my under-garment,-showi-ng by dash lines a certain folded position of a portion thereof; Fig. :4 is a side 'elevational view of the :front piece {of -my under garmentg Fig. 5 is aside elevationalview of the seam strip of my under-garment; and Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken from the line 66 of Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
The side pieces I and 2, front piece 3 and seam strip 4 constitute the principal parts and portions of my under-garment.
The side pieces I and 2 may be made of any suitable material as desired. These side pieces I and 2 are.suhstantiall-yidentical in outline and when :assembled .fi-t .raround op osite hips of the wearer. Theeside piece I, ;as :shown ,in flat relationship by a, solid line in Fig. 5310f the drawing, is provided--withan-;ir1teg ularlyicurved cutout portion am at :its normally flower :edge arranged to provide one leg Opening :of my undergarment. This cnnvatu-re in therear seam portion Ih when sewed in connection with the rear seam portion zi-of the-side piece '2, provides fullness in the rear of the-un'dergarment adapted to fit the buttocks-of :the we ar-sr.
t-I he: seam strip 4 is sewed tin-overlapping relation with the seam forming edge portions Ih and 2) for reinforcing the rear seams of the undergarment.
The front piece 3 is positioned on the inner side of the front seam portions I j and 2a of the side pieces I and 2 and reinforces the front of the under-garment and extends downwardly in the front portion to a juncture with the front seam edge portions Id and le of the side piece I and to the similar seam portions 2g and 2h of the side piece 2. This front piece 3, as shown in Fig. 6, is positioned on the inner side of the front portions l7 and 27' of the side pieces I and 2.
The elastic 5, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, is hemmed in the edge of the side pieces I and 2 around the leg holes as well as the upper edge portion Ila, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawing, providing conformance of the edges of the under-garment with the wearer thereof.
It will be here notedthat acommonseamponnects the seam edge portions Id, Ie, 2g and 2h, at the crotch of the assembled under-garment. The normally lower edge 3a of the front piece is also connected in the same seam.
The opposite side edge portions 31) and 3c of the front piece are diverging, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, and are connected in the hem at the edge of the irregularly curved portions la and 27c through which hemmed portion passes the elastic member 5.
If desired, the side pieces I and 2 may be made of thin mesh and the front piece 3 may be made of finely woven material providing a very lightly constructed under-garment particularly comfortable in warm weather.
It will be here noted that the irregular curved edge portion la is laid out employing a shorter radius near the curved crotch forming portion lb than is used nearthe rear crotch forming portion lc.
The use and wear of my under-garment is substantially as follows:
When my under-garment is worn by a dancer, for example, the upperfront edge of the garment at the upper portion of the front piece 3 is positioned substantially below the predominately curved portion of the wearers abdomen, whereby wrinkling of the front of this garment is substantially eliminated. The elastic 5 hemmed in the outlining portions of the garment holds the same in neat fitted relation with the wearer, maintaining the garment in comfortable properly fitted relation with the wearer. The relatively narrow disposition of the side pieces I and 2 at the wearers hips promotes freedom of the wearer particularly advantageous when worn by dancers having graceful costumes worn in contiguous relation with my under-garment.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to the particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an undergarment of the class described, the combination of a pair of side pieces having concave, cutout portions in the middle thereof, at their normally lower edges, opposite ends of said side pieces forming crotch portions, seam edges of said front and rear crotch forming portions of both of said side pieces connected by common vertical and horizontal seams intersecting at the crotch portion of the under-garment, said opposite ends of said side pieces connected at the middle of said undergarment at the front and back thereof, the upper edges of said side pieces forming a waistband adapted to completely surround the waist of the wearer, the front of said undergarment formed by downwardly curved portions of said side pieces, said concave cutout portions at the lower edge of said side pieces being of shorter radius near the front crotch portions than at the lower edge thereof near the rear crotch portions, and a front piece positioned on the inner side at the front of said side pieces, di-
verging upwardly and connected with said crotch portions at its lower edge, the upper edge of said front piece terminating at the upper edges of said side pieces.
2. In an undergarment of the class described, the combination of a pair of side pieces having concave, cutout portions in the middle thereof, at their normally lower edges, opposite ends of said side pieces forming crotch portions, seam edges of said front and rear crotch forming portions of both of said side pieces connected by a common seam, said opposite ends of said side pieces connected at the middle of said undergarment at the front and back thereof, the upper edges of said side pieces forming a waistband adapted to completely surround the waist of the wearer, the front of said undergarment formed by downwardly curved portions of said side pieces, said concave cut-out portions at the lower edge of said side pieces being of shorter radius near the front crotch portions than at the lower edge thereof near the rear crotch portions, and a front piece positioned on the inner side at the front of said side pieces, diverging upwardly and connected with said crotch portions at its lower edge, the upper edge of said front piece terminating at the upper edges of said side pieces, and elastic means hemmed in the outer edges of said side pieces.
