Be it known that I, ESTELLE CARROLL, a citizen'of the United States, a resident of New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in W'aists, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to waists designed to be worn as an undergarment and providing means for the attachment thereto of the nether garments of the wearer, and my invention has particular applicability to waists for children, although it is not conlined thereto.

An object of my invention is to provide a waist having straps 0r supporters so arranged as to brace the shoulders backwards and yet permit complete freedom of movement of the wearer; and my invention' has particular applicability to the maintenance of a correct posture in children and the prevention and correction of round shoulders.

Another object of my invention is to provide a waist having straps or supporters so arranged over the shoulders of the wearer as to remain thereon without any tendency to slip therefrom and yet provide a-comfortable garment and without a binding effect restricting the movements of the wearer.

A further object of my invention is to provide a waist having shoulder straps and yet with the front and back portions of the waist so relatively movable, particularly longitudinally of the wearer, that strain is not exerted upon the buttons or other fastening means attaching the waist to the nether garments in bending movements of the wearer.

Still another object of my invention is to provide for the accomplishment of the foregoing objects in a necessary garment suchas a waist as distinguished from braces or supporters worn additionally and especially for the purposes indicated.

These and other objects of my invention will more fully appear from the yfollowing detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, which, however, is to be understood as merely illustrative of my invention, and my invention is not to be restricted thereto.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A childs underwaist including a body having front and back portions, straps attached t the front portion extending over the shoulders when the waist is in position on the wearer, the upper part of the back portion being vertically movable with regard to said straps, said straps extending in a downward direction at the rear below the upper back portion of the waist, t0- gether with means for holding the rear ends of said straps in position free of the central back portion of the garment as regards vertical movement.

2. The combination'set forth in claim 1, wherein said straps extend oblique to each other to cross at the back portion.

3. The combination set forth in claim 1,

wherein the rear ends of such straps are disposed at the sides of the waist.

4. The combination set forth in claim 1,

6. The combination set forth in claim l, wherein the back portion is provided with slots slidably receiving said straps.

7. The combination set forth in claim l, wherein the rear ends of such straps are disposed at the sides of the waist, with means for securing' the straps respectively to such sides.
