TOILET ACCESSORY Application filed October 14, 1930. Serial No. 488,569.

This invention relates to toilet accessories, and more particularly to toilet accessories for boudoir or dressing-table use.

The objects of the invention are to provide an improved toilet accessory for holding cosmetic or make-up material such as powder, cream, rouge and the like; to provide such a device which is attractive, readily used, conveniently shipped; eiiicient in operation and sturdy in construction; to enable the container to be opened by moderate pressure and with one finger if desired, to prevent the contents from surging when en gaged for obtaining some thereof; to secure simplicity of construction and operation, and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.

Referring to the accompanying drawings in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views;

Figures 1 and 2 are side elevations of my improved toilet accessory showing the same open and closed respectively;

Figures 3 and 4 are corresponding plan views with the toilet accessory open and closed respectively; and

Figure 5 is a sectional view showing the cover partly open.

In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in said drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates the base member in general, which may have any desired shape; that shown being cylindrical but not restrictive because this shape is chosen as the one illustrated.

The base preferably provides an outer shell 2 and an inner container 3, these parts being permanently together by preference, and shown herein as integral, accomplished by constructing the same of molded material. The present container 3 is shown as essentially semi-spherical both outside and inside and has its under part separated from the inner wall of the shell. The open or diametric face of the container is u ward and substantially a semi-circumferential portion thereof is attached to or integral with a corresponding portion of the upper edge of the 50 shell. The other semi-circumferential portion of the upper edge of the container is free from and slightly spaced from the said shell, thereby providing a semi-annular slot 4.

A cover 5, corresponding in shape to that of the under side of the container, and here shown as substantially semi-spherical is arranged to swing into said slot 4. As here shown, the edge of the cover is provided at diametrically opposite points i with ears 0 6, 6 in continuation of the surface of the cover, these ears being positioned within the ends of the slot 4. Appropriate pivot means, such as rivets 7, 7 project through these ears from the base, and. thereby pivot the cover 55 to thebase.

In open position of the cover, the same isswung down into the slot 4 beneath the container 3 to nest therewith and completely expose the entire open side of the container and cause the cover to entirely disappear except for the edge in the slot 4:. To close the container, the cover is swung from the nested or open position into an outer position opposed to the container and thereby, inthe use of .shapes herein shown, providing a domelike structure on the base and a spherical enclosure.

In order to be able to swing the cover from its nested position, I have shown the upper so edge of the shell at the middle of the slot recessed at 8 for providing a finger opening and have shown the cover'provided with a lip 9 which is accessible to ones finger for swinging the cover, as will be obvious from as inspection of the drawings.

Preferably the inside surface of the container is arranged to hold the contents against surging, that is, tending to swing out of the container as a whole when pressure is applied no to the surface of the contents near one side of the container. As one means, annular ribs 10 are shown projecting from the inner surface of the container, but other means may be em loyed if so desired. 9

bviously detail changes and modifications may be made in the construction, and use of my improved toilet accessory without dep arting from the spirit or scope of the invention, and I do not wish to be understood as limit ing myself to the exact construction shown or described except as set forth in the following claims when construed in the light of the prior art. Having thus described the invention, I

claim 1. A toilet accessory comprising a container, and a cover for said container having a shape corresponding to the shape of the container and arranged to open with a part of the cover in juxtaposition to and outside of the container in open position of the cover. 2. A toilet accessory comprising a base having a shell and a oontainerproviding a slot therebetween, and a cover for the container having an edge juxtaposed to said slot and adapted to enter said slot in opening the cover. a

A toilet accessory comprising a base 249 having a shell and a container providing an upper slotsubstantially half the circumferenceof the container, and a cover for the container having an edge half the circumference of which is juxtaposed to said slot and adapted to enter said slot in opening the cover.

A toilet accessory comprising a base having a support and a container providing a slot therebetween, and a cover for'said container having a shape corresponding to the shape of the container and arranged to nest with the container in open position of the cover with the cover entering said slot.

5. A toilet accessory comprising a base having a shell and a container providing a 5 slot therebetween, and a cover for the container having an edge juxtaposed to said slot and adapted to enter said slot in'opening the cover, and means for enabling the cover to be withdrawn from said slot.

40 6. A .toilet accessory comprising a container having a curvilinear wall, and means following the curvature of and projecting from said wall to prevent the contents of said container from sliding.
