Thisinvention relateslto" toilet articles;
and has" special reference toa vanity case or defines Gne important object "of the invention-is T andrextendingwto .the bottom 10. Adjacent tion is to provide 'a' device of'thi's character wliereiirtl e case is'so constructed as toflprov-iole rouge receptacle and apowder're "ceptacle, the latter beingslidable to and fro over therou e-rece tacle, and-thus constituting a cover therefor, thus ohvi'atingf the difficulty found with the" ordinary type'of pzlate'l h By means of this construction the rouge 1 on the. 'other,- and wherein frequent dropping of the cosmetics results;
'A third important object of'the invention is the construction of a device of this character made entirely from sheet metal so" that itcan" be economically produced W ith the above and other objectsin view as will be hereinafterapparent, theinvfennew consists in general of certain novel details of construction-andcombinations of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and: 1
Fig. 1 is a top view of the improved device with the cosmetics removed, and show ing the powder receptacle in its closed position.
of a cylindrical box having a bottom 10 and I sidewallsdh Towthis box ishinged @1101- low cover :12, the things being indicated at Fi'ttedwithint-this.box is: a plate. 14
tothe' front of the "device, that is to say, .the side "oppositethe hinge there ispr'ovided a pair of lugs -18 which are struck up from the metal 1 of the plate and extend through slots "'19 which "are arranged in parallelism and areirectili near, these slots being formed in the'bOttOmQO'of-a powder receptacle ha ing'iasidefwal lQl, the diameter of this receptaclebeing less than the diameter of the bottom: of the powder receptacle constitutes a 'cover for the rouge .wellwhen the receptacle 1s slldin as in Fig.1, and exposesthe rouge well for'access when the receptacle is slid out, as in Fig.2. In order to hold the powder cake out-of contact with the lugs. 18, the, bottom 20' has secured thereon a liner plate 22; It will be noted that the'ends of the lugs-l8 are turned ov'ergsoas to prevent accidental displacement of the powder re- It will be obvious that when the powder receptacle is in the position shown in Fig. 1,
the top 12 is folded down thereover, and
forms a housing therefor, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4. In order to center the powder receptacle on the plate 14- and thus permit the top to shut down, there is provided adjacent the hinge an arcuate stop rib 23, which is fixed to the plate 14.
The usual mirror Mis also provided in the top. a
It willbe seen from the foregoing, that both the rouge and the powder may be exposed at the same time if desired, and that the construction of the device is extremely simple and yet convenient.
There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes inay be made intheform construction of the invention without in any way departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not,
therefore, desired to confine theinvention to the'exact form herein shown and described,
but it is wished to include all such as prope erly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is: i
1. vanity case including a case bottom having a hollow top hinged thereto at one side, awell in said casebottom for the reception of a cosmetic, a cosmetic receptacle fitted on top ofthe case bottom and having rectilinear sliding connection with said bottom, said receptacle forming a cover for said well. when slid inwardly and being housed in the top upon closing of the latter on the case bottom, and an arcuate stop rectilinear sliding connection with said bottom,saidreceptacle forming a cover forsaid well when slid inwardly and being housed in the top upon closing of the latter on the case bottom, said well being disposed eccen trically of the case bottom, and adjacent to the hinge of the top and the receptacle sliding toward and from said hinge, and an arcuate stop fixed on said case bottom to limit the movement of said receptacle. 7
3. A vanity case comprising a hollow cylindrical box open at the top, a hollow cylindrical main cover fitting on said box, a hingeconnecting said main cover and said box; at oneside, aplate having a downwardly turned peripheral flange fitted in said box and filling the same whereby the plate lies substantially flush with the'edge of the box, said plate having an eccentric opening therein adjacent the hinge and a depending flange around the periphery of the opening to form a well for reception of a cosmetic, said plate further having a pair of spaced lugs adjacent the edge of the plate opposite the hinge, a second open topped box mounted on said plate and being of less diameter than the plate, said second box being provided with a bottom having parallel rectilinear slots for the reception of the lugs, the ends of said lugs being bent over to retain the second box in position,
and liners disposed in the bottom of the sec 'ond box to hold an article contained therein tree of said lugs.
4:. A vanity casecomprising a hollow cylindrical box open at the top, a hollow cylindrical main cover fitting on said box, a hinge connecting said main cover and said box at one side, a plate having a downwardly turned peripheral flange fitted in said box and filling the same whereby the plate lies substantially flush with the edge of the box, said plate having an eccentric opening therein adjacent the hinge and a depending flange around the periphery of the opening to form a well for reception of a cosmetic, said plate further having a pair of spaced lugs adjacent the edge of the plate opposite the hinge, a second open topped box mounted on said plate and being of less diameter than the plate, said second box being provided with a bottom having parallel rectilinear slots for the reception of the lugs, the ends of said lugs being bent over to retain the second box'in position,
