Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 7, 1921.
Application led July 8, 1919, Serial No. 309,314. Renewed April 5, 1921. Serial No. 458,696.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINE VERICEL, a citizen of France, and a resident of the city of New York, boroufrh of Manhattan, in the county and State of lNew York, have invented a new and Improved Vanity-Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention, relates to new and useful improvements in toilet cases, and per- .tains more particularly to that type of toilet cases adapted to be carried in handbags, satchels, or the like, of the users, and commonly known as vanity cases.
The primary object of .the invention is to provide a device of this character in which powder receptacles are employed, the puffs by which the powders are applied serving as the means for retaining the powders in place within the respective receptacles,
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character with a mirror which is capable of movement to operative position, and, at the same time, which is capable of being retained within the box when not in use.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a compartment for containing a lip stick. I
With the above and otherr objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawin s in whichigure 1 is a front elevation of the device in its closed position;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; l
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 0f Fig. i; o
Fig. 4 is a view showing the device in its open or operative position.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the device comprises two hinged covers 10 and 11, said covers being pivotally connected together as at 12, by means of a pintle or the like 13. Each of these covers 10 and 11 is substantially circular in form, and adjacent the peripheral ledge thereof, each cover is provided with means serving to hinge said covers together.
As seen in Fig. 3, each of the covers 10 and 11 is substantially concavo-convex and is constricted as designated by thel reference character 15, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described. The cover 10 is provided on one edge with a resilient clasp 16,
and said clasp 16 v:is adapted to engage the curved edge 17 of the cover 11 for securingI the hinged covers together-when not in use.
The reference characters 18 and 19 designate powder puifs and said puffs are of a dimension slightly in excess of the transverse dlmension of their respective cover receptacles 10 and 11. By this construction, it will be'apparent that when the powder puds 18 and 19 are placed in their respective regether with its mirror 21, are adapted to be adjusted to any desired position when the device is open, as shown in Fig. 4. vWhen, however, the device is closed as shown in Fig. 3, the mirror 21 occupies a space between the covers 10 and 11 and the powder puffs 18 and 19.
The operation of the device is as follows:
When it vis desired to use the device, it is opened to the position shown in Fig. 4, in which position both the covers 10 and 11 will lie in the palm of the hand of the user. IThe mirror is now adjusted to the desired position which operation leaves both of the powder pu's 18 and 19 readily accessible. As either of the powder puffs is removed from its respective receptacle, it will be seen that owing to the fact that both receptacles are in a horizontal plane, the powder will not be displaced therefrom, thus preventing the povfgder being spilled upon removal of the pu The reference character 25 designates a lip stick which is adapted to be received within the receptacle 13 and 14 when the device is closed, said lip stick being readily removable when the device is open as shown in Fig. 4.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the present invention provides a vanity case in which the operation may be carried `out without danger of spilling the contents thereof, and, at the same time, the device provides a mirror and suitable containers for the various articles, all of which are capable of use in such e manner that the possibility of spilling the materials` carried by those recepteeles not in use is eliminated. Having thus described the invention, What 5 is claimed as new is:
A device of the :harecter described comrising a pair of covers, @echV of which is ormed with e substantially circular receptacle, Y and en elongated 'recepwcile exteriorly arranged with respect to the circular 10 receptacle, means carried by seid elongated receptacle for hin y (securing said covers together, and a. mirorhingedly secured between seid covers?" mfromn vement.
