COSMTIC CONTAINERl V Filed April 13, 1951 im ATTORNEY Patented May 31, 1932 iran stares OFFHC:
COSMETIC CONTAINER l Application filed April 13, 1931.y Serial No. 529,742.
My invention relates to devices adapted for the retention of a plurality ofv toilet preparations such as powder compacts and cosmetic pencils and refers particularly to devices of this character in which the withdrawal of the cosmetic pencil is facilitated.
In toilet preparation containers adapted to hold a cosmetic pencil in addition to other cosmetics it is desirable that the casing ofthe 10 cosmetic pencil be capable of being contained within the container when the Vlatter is in closed Vposition and capable of presenting the pencil for easyremoval from its carrier when the container is in open position.
Many containers have the pencil casing and pencil loosely positioned within them, thus requiring the removal of the casing from the container and necessitating the use of both hands in removing the pencil from the 20 casing.
Attempts have been made to overcome the mentioned diiicnlty by pivotally connecting the pencil casing to theinterior of the container, the casing and pencil resting within the container when itis in closed position. In order to remove the pencil from the casing in devices of this construction it is necessary to linsert a finger into the casing compartment in order to pivotally move it to gain access to "G the pencil within it. l
The device of my invention overcomes the mentioned objections to the aforedescribed devices and presents a device in which the opening of the container will pivotally move the cosmetic pencil casing outwardly of the container presenting the pencil for immediate and ready removal from the casing.
The novelty and advantages of my device will be evident upon a consideration of my specification and accompanying drawings i1- lustrating one form of the device of my invention.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating one form of my device similar parts are designated by similar numerals.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my device in closed position.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary top view of one 50 corner of my device.
`Figure 3is a top plan viewvof the deviceof Figure 1 in open position. y
Figure 4 is an enlarged section through the line 4 4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is an enlarged section through the line 5 5 of Figure 4.
Figure 6`is an enlarged fragmentary view ofFigure 4;.
TheA particular form of my device shown in the accompanying drawings consists of a casing having the top member 10 with the extended ianges 11, 12 13 and 14 and the bottomV Vmember 15 ianges 16, 1T, 18 and v19. the bottom side 16 are hingedly attached to each other bythe pintle 20 passing through ring members 21, 21 carried by the two sides, the top and bottom members thus forming a casingwhen closed upon each other.
Attached to the bottom 22 of the cosmetic pencil or cosmetic stick casing 23 is an eX- tended member 24 having the expanded portion 25 and the end portion 26, the `pintle 20 passing through an openingin the portion 25. rl/Vithin the cosmetic-pencil casing 23, and longitudinally"removable therefrom, is a cosmetic-pencil holder 28, within which is a cosmetic-pencil carrier'29 carrying the cosmeticfpencil 30. f
` Thebottom member 15' has the wall 31 die having the extended l The top side 11 and viding it into two`compartments, vone of which 32 is adapted to receive a powder compact and the other of which 33 is adapted'to receive the cosmetic-pencil casing 23.
A mirror 3Liis hingedly `attached between the top and bottom members by means of the pintle 20 and'serves as a cover for the compartment 32.
A powder compact 35 and a powder puff 36 are positioned within the compartment 32.
Theoperation of the device is as follows:
When the device is closed, the cosmetic casing 23: and its contents are positioned within the compartment 33. As the Vtop member and-the bottom member are Vopened with respect to eachother, the flange 11 of the top member 10 and the flange 16 ofthe bottom member 15 abut `upon opposite sides of the element 26 thus causing the cosmeticpencilcasing to assume Van uprightposition lil and allowing the withdrawal of the cosmeticpencil holder 28, the cosmetic-pencil carrier 29 and the cosmetic-pencil 30.
t will thus be seen that in my device the opening of the container automatically erect-s tbe pencil casing and that the cosmetic-pencil can be readily withdrawn and replaced into position without releasing theI container'.
lt will be further noticedthat the operation of the cosmetic casing is a positive mechanical movement and is notV dependent upon springs or other resilient means Jfor its accomplishment. f
l do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number, arrangementl or material' of parts as shown. and described as theseare given simply as a means for clcarlyvdescri-bthe device of my invention.
