vVANITY CASE.
Filed June 24, 1930 WITNESSES v'Patented July 7, 1931 TES PAT NT OFFICE n l CHARLES N. CORYELL, OI" LARCHINIONT, NEW YORK VANITY CASE.;
Application led .Tune 24,
This invention relates to a vanity case, and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein desirable attachments 7nay be provided inthe interior oi' the case,
A ncluding a specially formed lip-,stick holder which is readily accessible when the case is open. n
Another object of the invention is to pro ride a vanity case, wherein the lipstick is 1G carried by a holder connected with the case in such a manner that the lipstick may be removed and used without molesting the case. A further object, more specilically, is to orovide a lipstick holder for vanity cases, wherein the holder is formed with a knuckle forming part of thehinge of the vanity case and with additional securing vmeans for connecting the holder with one section of the `vanity casel so as to swing therewith.
In the accompanying drawings,-
Figure 1 is a plan view of a vanity case disclosing an embodiment of the invention, the same being shown open;
Figure 2 is an edge view of the structure shown in Figure 1, the same being on an enlarged scale;v
Figure 3 is a sectional view through Figure 1 on the line 3 8, the same being on substan- 4'ially the same scale as Figure 2 i 3G Figure 4 is a sectional view similar to Figure 3 but with the lid closed;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the structure shown in Figure 1;
Figure 6 is a bottom plan view of the lipstick holder;
Figure 7 is a plan view with certain parts broken away of the lipstick casing with the lipstick mounted' therein.
Referring to the accompanying drawings bv numerals, 1 indicates what may be termed the body of the casing, and 2 the lid, While 3 indicates the lipstick holder. The vanity case has been shown substantially rectangu- 1-ar in shape but it may be formed in some other manner and provided with different articles. In the drawings a mirror 4 is mounted in the lid 2 and is held in place by the friction of the side walls 5 and 6, althoughy other fastening means could be provided without 50, departing from the spirit of the invention.

'Ih e bodyA 1 is provided with a tray 7 containing powder and asecondtray or compartment Scontainingrouge or other Vrdesired cosmetic. The body 1 and `lid 2 are vconnected by a suitable. hinge 9, Abut in forming the hinge the knuckle is omitted, so that the knuckle 10 formed on `the holder Sgmay be inserted and held in place by the pintle `of hinge 9. In this waythe vholder 3 is pivotally connected with the case, butto prevent the holder 3 from swinging independently otA the lid 2, a spur 11is pressed out of theA holder, said spur projecting beneath the Yend of the mirror4, as shown in Figure 4, This anchors the holder at this point, and as thev same held by the pintle of hinge 9 no independent movement ofthe holder can take place.. The holder is naturally of substan-f` tiallyfthe same shapeas the lipstick and is yformed withan openend 12 and a closed end 13. A slot 14 extends from open yend 12 inp wardlya short distance so as to accommodate the pin or thumb member 15 which is connected with the metal-tip 16 carrying the lipstick 17. '.The lipstick 17 and the tip 16 are slidably mounted in a lipstick casing 18.- This casingis provided with a closed end y19 and an* open end 2O lwith a slot 21 extending from the open end to near the closed end. This slot permits the pin 15 to slide back and forth so that when this casing is 'held by the hand the users thumb may press the pin 15 to eject or withdraw the lipstick. Pin 15 is of suflicient length to extend through slot 14 so that the casing 18 and parts carried thereby may be withdrawn from the holder 3. By providing this construction a person may withdraw the holder 18, partly eject the lipstick 17 and use the same without disturb-v ing holder 3. This is desirable, in that the person may hold the vanity case so as to use the mirror 4 and at the same time. use the V lipstick. As shown'particularly in Fig. 5. the holder 3 is elliptical in cross-section and fits in the rounded part of the lid 2. It also lits in the rounded part of one end o1' body 1, so that when the lid is closed the parts will appear as shown in Fig. 4. When Vthe lid is open the lipstick is ready yfor use,
as well as the mirror.
What I claim is 2- l. A vanity case, comprising a body, a lid hinged thereto, a lipstick holder formed with means for engaging the pintle of the hinge :onnecting the lid and body and With an eX- tension, and a lock engaging said extension for preventing independent swinging movement of the lipstick holder.
2. A vanity case, including a body, a lid, .t hinge connecting the lid with the body, a lipstick holder positioned at one side of said hinge formed With an extension presenting a hinged knuckle, said knuckle forming part of said hinge, and means carried by the lid coacting with the holder for preventing independent swinging movement of the holder.
3. In a vanity case, a lipstick holder comprising a substantially tubular casing open at one end and closed at the opposite end, said casing on one side being formed With a hinged knuckle and on the other with a pressed-out spur and means engaging said spur for preventing independent movement of the holder.
4. A vanity case, including a body, a lid hinged to the body, means in the body carrying cosmetics, av mirror carried by the lid, and a. lipstick holder carried by the lid adjacent the hinge, said lipstick holder being formed with means interlocking with the. hinge and with a member extending beneath the mirror, whereby the holder is held against independent movement.
5. A vanity case, including a body, a lid hinged thereto and a lipstick holder, said holder being formed with means interlocking with the pintle of the hinge connecting the body and lid, and an integral projection extending toward the outer end of the lid, and a mirror carried by the lid overlapping said extension, whereby the holder is held against independent movement.
