Y. ApplicationDecemberZO, 1945, Serial No. 636.148
A particular object of the invention is to provide with a minimum amount of stitching opera- 1 Claim. (01. 150-35) tion, and material, a container of the character referred to which will provide a wallet, display compartments, 9. change purse, cigarette pocket and other sundry holding parts in a unitary structurethat permits the use of any of the parts without danger of spilling the contents of the other pockets.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a four way fold as a means of protecting the contents of the wallet to eliminate spilling and to afford access to the parts with a minimum of manipulation. a 1
Still further objects provide for the mounting of a mirror which may be seen by opening one part of the wallet or which may be drawn from a suitable pocket; the use of a protective or key chain which may be used to fasten the billfold or Wallet to a belt or 'on the finger, the chain being also employed for the purpose of carrying keys and being arranged for connection to the wallet structure at either side thereof; the provision of an elastic fabric strap in which may be held a lipstick holder or a cigarette lighter for convenient use without the necessity of opening thewallet, this advantage also being present in the use of a cigarette holding pocket that is mounted at one side of the wallet structure; and to provide an article that may be used by either men or women to carry the number of items necessary in every day use.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a wallet which is constructed in accordance with one embodiment of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the wallet of the preceding figure shown from the opposite side.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the embodiment of the invention shown in the two preceding figures.
Fig. 4 illustrates this embodiment in a position with its cigarette case open.
Fig, 5 is a perspective view showing the main part of the wallet, constructed in accordance with the invention, completely open.
Fig. 6 is a vertical section through lines 6-6 of Fig, 5.
Fig. '7 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 8 is an edge elevation.
Fig, 9 illustrates the embodiment shown in Figs. '7 and 8 in perspective view and in its completely opened condition.
Referring to the drawing in. detail It indicates a body blank made of leather, real or simulated, or any other suitable material that may be em.- ployed, or is customary in the making of purses, walletsand the like. The blank It is provided with an integralsection II which will be referred to as a center section, a left hand extension it, a right hand extension it, an upper flap 22 and a lower flap 23. The left hand extension is provided with the frame portion It, while the right hand extension is provided with the frame portion l8, both of said portions being folded toward their respective sections l5 and i6 and being sewn as at I 8 along the bottom side and top edges to an inside or auxiliary wall 2i) of light material which constitutes one side of the wallet.
The frame [8 is folded and sewn in like manner to the opposite end of the blank so that pockets are formed at the opposite ends of the wallet structure and on the inner face thereof, which frame may be closedby suitable panes I9 of transparent material such as Cellophane. The
Intermediate the frames l8 and ifia there is sewn or otherwise attached at three of its edges to the inner wall 26, the pocket I 3, which is provided with a fastening element It and pleated in its front wall for expansion. The back of the pocket I3 in itself provides with wall 20 a receptacle in which may be held cards or the like. The upper flap 22 is provided with the oppositely disposed grommets or eyelets 24 in either of which may be detachably held a safety or key chain 25, the ends of which are connected by the usual catch 26. This chain may be of any length desired and may be secured to a belt or held on the finger in order to provide a safety device, or may be used to hold keys.
At the center of the back of the blank I, I attach a flap piece I! having tab I! for imprisonment beneath a holding strap l'l secured to the outer wall of a cigarette case formed from a piece of material 22*. This material is sewn or otherwise attached to the blank and with it is sewn a loop 21 of flexible material in which may be positioned a lipstick holder or a cigarette lighter, which, when the parts of the wallet are folded, as in Fig. 4, will present the device held in the strap for ready use.
The cigarette case 22 is reinforced by the U-shaped strap '28 made of metal or other rigid material that extends across the bottom and up the side walls and interiorly of said case 22, being pinched over its ends to grip the material of the cigarette case. It will be noted that'the flap I! of the cigarette case may be opened without opening the wallet, which is closed by the flaps 22 and 23 held together by the fastening members 2! and 2M.
Referring to the form of the invention shown in Figs. '7 to 9 the same construction is employed except that an additional frame 30 is sewn to the auxiliary wall at three sides to form a transparent card carrying case intermediate the transparent end cases'iiil and and a frame 23 is attached to the flap 23 in which may be carried a mirror or transparent closure sheet as in the other frames. In this instance, the cigarette case is omitted and a pocket 93 somewhat similar to pocket i3 is sewn at three edges to the central portion of the blank ill at the back thereof and provides an additional pocket 33. In a pocket formed between the back of pocket !6" and the wall of the wallet, a mirror may be nositioned for withdrawal at the end of a strap 34, which latter is suitably secured to blank lEl by the same stitching that connects the pocket 13' with the blank, the strap 36 being flexible so that the mirror 35' may be withdrawn as indicated in Fig. 7.
It is evident, therefore, that I-have provided a wallet having a four way fold as a protective feature that eliminates t e possibility of spilling the contents of said wallet when the other pockets of the device are opened for use; a lipstick holder of elastic fabric that can accommodate various sizes of lipstick or hold a cigarette lighter; a compartment as an auxiliary pocket to hold cigarettes, medium sized compacts or sundries; and for the useof one or more chains which may be used for keys or toattach the" wallet to a belt or inside a hand bag.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred emobdiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A combined wallet and cigarette case, comprising a wallet forming body comprising two side walls secured along adjacent longitudinal edges and along adjacent end edges to each other and open along one longitudinal side to receive paper money, and said body being foldable in three sections, with a right and left wing folding over the intermediate central area in overlapping engagement, said central area having a card holding pocket. secured thereto on the inside and forminga support for a ci-garetteicase on the outside, each of. said wings having a pocket opening inwardly adjacent the card holding pocket, a flap having its inner end edgehinged to one end of the central area to foldinwardly and a flap hinged to the other. end of said central area to fold inwardly in overlapping. relation to said first-named flap outwardly; of said wings when in afolded condition, and cooperating fas- O teners carried by said flaps to-secure one to the The following references are ofrecord in' the file of this patent:
