BLAKE COMPANY. OF ATTLEBORO', MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSA- CHUSE'ITS.
CONTAINER FO'R ROUGE AND POWDER COMPACTS.
Application led January 18, 1924. Serial No.,` 686,973.
To all 107mm it mag/ concern.'
Be it known that I, ALBERT E. HATHAWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers for Rouge and Powder Compacts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to containers for powder, rouge, or other compacts, or for other material for facial application.
One object of my invention is to provide, in the intermediate hinged member ot a container comprising three hinged members, means for carrying a plaque and powder pull'.
Another object is to afford means for carrying in such intermediate member, togel her with the plaque and pull', a mirror.
A further object is to maintain the plaque and pull in the well against accidental escape, and without materially lessening accessibility thereto.
A further object is to improve the reflecting means.
A final object is to attain the enumerated and ycommonly sought ends in such containers, in a compact, secure and easily operable structure.
My invention consists, therefore, in the means for producing the results specified substantially as hereinafter claimed.
In the accompanying drawings which are a part of this specification, and wherein like characters of reference indicate correspondingparts throughout the views,
igure l is a perspective view of a con-l tainer embodying my invention closed,
Figure 2, a side elevation of the same with all the parts in expanded position,
Figure 3, a plan view of the container with one section only elevated, and
Figure 4, an enlarged section on line 4--4 of Figure 1.
In its present and preferred embodiment my container comprises a flanged body member or cover 7 a lid or second cover 8 and a partition 9 enclosed by the covers and having a hinged movement relatively to one or both covers. In the `present instance all three members have a common hinged connection, but the common or mutual charac` ter ofthe hinge connection is not essential.
In detail the body 7 comprises a base 12 and flange or wall 13. The inwardly offset upper edge portion 14 of the latter has in this case a marginal cavity 15, and adjacent thereto is formed an elevation 16. Below the latter is an internal horizontal shoulder 17. In this instance a suspension ring 19 is fastened to the side 13. The body 7 is adapted to receive a powder compact 21 and a covering pull1 or pad 22, or the like.
In detail the lid or cover 8 comprises a top 23 and side 24. Fixed by solder or otherwise to the interior of the lid top is a bezel or retaining ring 26 overlapping and securing a glass mirror 27. Integral with or fast to the side 24 is an outwardly directed finger piece 28, and inwardly directed projection 29. The latter cooperates with the elevation 16 to form a catch with the member 7. Hinge sleeves 31 and 32, upon the sides 24 and 13 respectively, surround the hinge pin 33 and afford the hinged connection of the body and lid. A projection 35 on the body forms a stop for the rearward travel of the lid.
The partition member 9 is a hollow circular disk comprising an annular top plate 38, a depending peripheral rim or flange 39, an internal depending wall vor flange 40, forming a well 41, and an inturned annular lip or supporting flange 42 at its lower end. A depending bezel 44 fast by solder or otherwise to the lower edge of the flange 39 embraces the peripheral margin of a glass-mirror 46 whose back abuts against flange 42. In the Well 41 is a rouge compact or plaque 48 upon which rests a puff or pad 49. A retaining means for these consists of a ring 51 frictionallyengaging the well wall 40, engaging the margin of the plaque, and slighly projecting above the plate 38, and provided with an inturned flange 52. The opening 53 formed by this flange is of less diameter than that of the plaque and pull', the latter being loosely surrounded by the ring 51, Ihence these articles are secured against accidental escape, while accessible. A thin cross strip 55 sewed to the top of the puff as a handle is convenient but not necessary. For replenishment of rouge the ring 51 may be manually withdrawn. A hinge sleeve 57 soldered to or integral with the flange 39 embraces the hinge pin 33; so that the member 9 has hinge intermediate the covers sition the shoulder 17, and a with the projection the cover 7 in alignment wit nail cavity.
1. In a container o scribed, a body compact, a lid tition disk hinge and provided wi contain a cosmestic p tachable ring frictiona well, and an lnwardly directe adapted to receiv d travel within and flange on the ring adapted to partially close 7 and 8. In closed the mouth of the well.
laque and puff, a de- In testimony whereof I have aihxed my lly mounted in the signature.
d retaining ALBERT E. HATHAWAY.
