Description

Aug.*ll, 1931. H. G. LEMOINE 1,818,340
POWDER BOX Filed Jan. 16, 1930 Patented Aug. 11, 1931 PATET; ICE.
HENRY GUIDO LEMOINE, OF IPER'RIERS-SUB-ANDELLE, FRANCE POWDER BOX Application filed January 16, 1930, Serial No. 421,243, and. in France February 2, 1929.
My invention relates to a new application to toilet powder boxes of the system of ejection by which toilet powder is ejected by means of a piston-diaphragm of the kind used v for example in boxes containing vermin killer powder, in small oil cans and the like, it has for its object to allow of impregnating the puif with a small quantity of powder by means of a few pressures exerted by the thumb.
The powder box according to my invention comprises substantially a body divided by a partition wall provided with small perforations which is placed above the powder container, the bottom of the latter being constituted by flexible convex diaphragm of any appropriate material capable of returning to its first position after having been pressed in. The powder puff is placed above the body of the box in the lid. 1
The appended drawing is a sectional diametrical view which shows by way of example a mode of execution of a powder box according to my invention.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that the box comprises a body a of cylindrical shape for example, provided with a partition wall Z) perforated with numerous small holes 0, the diameter of which is calculated to allow the passage of the powder under pressure but to prevent its escape when the box is merely upset.
The middle portion of the partition wall I) is slightly concave so as to prevent the puff which rests upon its circumference from obstructing the holes 0. The box is closed at the top by a lid 6 of any appropriate kind which may be either removable 0r hinged.
The powder f is retained under the parti tion I) by means of a movable bottom 9 made integral with a collar h which allows of its being screwed upon the box.
The movable bottom 9 which is slightly convex is made of any appropriate material such as thin sheet metal and acts as a diaphragm-piston. It will easily be seen that when said bottom part is pressed in and allowed to take again its natural convexity, it will efiect a pulsation which causes a powder cloud to pass through the holes 0 in the space drawing accompanying and forming a part of this specification, my invention comprising the combination of boxes of any shape with a piston-diaphragm of any appropriate kind actuated in any suitable manner as said diaphragm may be plain or provided with a knob and the like.
lVhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a toilet powder box comprising apowder container the upper wall of which forms a support for the pufi and is provided with holes to allow the passage of the powder to the puff, powder projecting means constituted by the bottom of the container the latter being in the shape of a flexible diaphragm which may be deformed by finger pressure on the external surface of said bottom.
2. A toilet powder box which comprises a separate frame divided in two compartments by means of a perforated partition wall, the middle part of the latter being of concave shape in order to prevent at this point its coming in contact with the pufi carried upon the edge of the partition, the lower part of the frame forming a powder container, a bottom part for said container, said bottom part being constituted by a convex diaphragm elastically deformable provided with a flange which screws upon the cylindrical wall of the frame, and a lid for the upper part of the frame.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name.
HENRY GUIDO LEMOINE.
