PATENT OFFICE.
CRISTIAN A. BUSCHAM, OF IRVINGTON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR T C. 1. BUSCHAM MFG. CO., OF IRVINGTON, NEW JERSEY.
VANITY CASE OF WATCHCASE TYPE.
Application led ,September toilet articles which are commonly known as -compacts,7 or vanity cases of watch case 'a' type.
One object of the invention is to improve the general constructiony of devices oit this character;
A secondv object ot the invention is to provide an improved compact having the parts nested with respectto` each other, one container beingy provided with a lid or cover and forming a lid or Cover for a secondv container.
A third object ot' the invention is to provide a compact of the above character wherein each container will be provided with its own mirror, the-latter being exposed only when the particular container is opened.
lVith the above and other objects in view as will behereinatter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations ot parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying'drawings and specilically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like cha-racters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the compact showing the same closed.
Figure 2 is a front view ot the same showing the rouge container open.
Figure 3 is a front view showing the powder container open.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section on the line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a view in top plan showing the two containers separated in order to disl close the hinge construction.
Figure 6 is a bottom plan partly broken away to show the hinge construction.
In the present embodiment of the invention the compact is shown as provided with a main bottom member 10 which is preferably made of thin sheet metal pressed into substantially segmento spherical form and on the edge of this member is carried a ring 11 the edge of which is pressed or spun over the edge of the bottom 10. This ring is provided with a depending inner cylindrical flange 13 the lower edge of which engages the bottom 10, thus forming a shallow concave bottomed cell or container wherein may be placed a cake of face powder.
21, 1925. Serial No. 57,642.
In order to form a .lid orcover `for this part of the device there is provided an outer ring 14 having an outer depending flange 15 and an inner depending tlange spaced from the flange 15. Fitted within the outer flange 15 is a ring 17 having` at its bottom an inwardly projecting lange 18 whcreon rests amirror 19 backed bv a disk 2O of cardboard or the like. rthe mirror and cardboard are thus gripped between the iianges 16 and 18 and form the bottom of ai second shallow container wherein may be placed a cake of rouge.
To cover the rouge container there is provided a top 21 having a rebent edge 22 from which depends a flange 23, the edge and Vflange fitting closely in the ring 14 and its inner flange 16. Fitted in the flange 23 is avbezel 24 which serves to hold a inirror 25 in position.
To hinge the parts together, the rings', 1l and 15 each have a slot 26 formed therein and the ring 11' is provided with a tubular projection 27 radially alined with its slot and passing through the slot 26 of the ring 11. Similarly, the top 21 is provided with a tubular projection 28 which passes through the slot of the ring 14. Pins 29 serve to hold these tubular projections in position.
In assembling the pins are positioned as shown in full lines in Figure 5 and the projecting end of the top pin hooked into the slot ot' the ring 14. The pin is then pushed to the position shown in dotted lines in that figure. Next the rings 14 and 11 are similarly secured. Finally the bottom is placed in position and the ring 11 pressed or sprung thereon.
Thumb nail slots are of course provided to enable the cover to be opened.
There has thus been provided a simple and etlicient device of the kind described and cover for the outer case and having a short cylindrical portion forming an inner case and having a bottom forming the remainder of the cover for the outer ease, a hinge connection between the outer periphery of the ring and the outer case, a cover for the inner case nesting within the same, and a hinge connection between said cover and the inner periphery of the ring.
ing an annular portion forming a partial cover for the outer case and having a short cylindrical portion forming an inner case and having a mirror constituting its bottom and forming the remainder f the cover for the outer case, a hinge connection between the outer periphery of the ring andthe outer case, a cover for the inner case nesting within the sameyand a hinge connection between said cover and the inner periphery of the ring.
Sq'In a compact, and outer case, a ring having an annular portion forming a partial cover for the outer case and having a short cylindrical portion 'forming an inner case and having 'a mirror constituting its bottom and forming the remainder oit the cover for the outer case, a hinge connection between the outer peripheryi ofthe ring and the outer case, a cover for the inner case nesting within the same, and a hinge connection between said cover and the inner periphery of the ring, said inner case being nested within the outer case.
4. In a compact7 an outer case having a 2. In a compact, an outer case, a ring hav- Y' peripheral portion overhanging its body, an inner ease forming a cover for the outer case and hinged to the inner edge of the overhanging portion, said cover having a central cosmetic receiving portion provided with a peripherally extending flange ring at its upper edge and a cover hinged to said inner case, said inner case being nested within said outer case, and mirrors supporti ed by the lower side of the inner case and its cover respectively.
5. In a compact, an outer case, an inner case comprising a ring having an inner edge and-an outer edge concentric with the inner edge, said outer edge being hinged to theouter case and carrying a mirror forming the bottom of the inner case, said ring and mirror forming a cover for the outer case, and a cover lfor the inner case hinged to said ring, and a second mirror supported within said inner case cover.'
G. In a compact, an outer case, an inner case comprising a ring having an inner edge and an outer edge concentric with the inner edge,` said 'outer edge being hinged to the Aouter case and carrying a mirror forming the bottom ot the inner case, said ring and mirror forming a cover for the outer case, and a cover for the inner case hinged to said ring, said inner case being nested with said outer case, and a second mirror supported within said inner casecover.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
