. IMPROVEMENT m SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,556, dated May 16, 1876; application filed April 25, 1876. v
To all whom it may concern:
 Be it known that I, HENRY PowELsoN, of New Brunswick, countyof Middlesex, and State of New Jersey, have invented a newand Improved'SashF-astener, of which the following is a specification: V V
 Figure 1 is a front view of the lower part of a window to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, taken through the line a: 00, Fig. 1.
 Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. r
 The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for attachment to a windowsash, to fasten it in place when closed, or when opened to any desired extent, and which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use,
and reliable in operation.
 The invention consists in the combination of the two rods or. bars and the cone-pointed screw withthe sash and casing of'a window, as hereinafter fully described and definitely claimed. I
 A represents the casing of a window, and B represents the sash of the window. In the bottom rail of the sash B is formed a hole, into the opposite ends of which are inserted two rods or bars, 0, the inner ends of which nearly meet, and the outer ends of which have feet formed upon them, which rest in recesses in the sides of the sash. D is a screw, which passes in throughthe forward side of the sashrail, or through a cap or nut secured to said sash-rail. The forward end of the screw D is made conical, or has a small cone attached to it, and its point is inserted between the inner ends of the bars 0, so that byturning the said screw inward its conical forward end may force the two bars 0 outward, pressing their outer ends against the casing, and thus look ing the sash in place.
 The screw D may have a knob attached to its outer end; or its end need not project, and may be squared off to receive a key, similar toa clock-key, so that when the key is removed there may be nothing projecting to disfigure the sash;
 Having thus described my invention, I claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combinationof the rods or bars 0 and the cone-pointed screw D with the sash and casing of a window, substantially as herein shown and described.
